FLY DOMESTICALLY WITH NYS DRIVER'S LICENSE ONLY??
 

Beginning early 2018, will it be possible to fly witihin the US with only a New York Stste license as proof of identity? (I have read otherwise). Or I do I need to have my passport as well?

I take my passport in international trips but I never take it on domestic trips, just my driver's license. (from Texas, in case that matters) I've never heard this is changing, I can't imagine a passport would be needed for a domestic flight.

The rule change has to do with the form of the Driver’s License. When the new “approved” formate was adopted NYS’s DL’s were not compliant. NYS DL’s are currently “under review”. Whether or not they will be fully “approved” remains to be seen. Go to the TSA website cited in the earlier response and click on the “REAL ID” link for more info.

Thank you RoamsAround, I didn't scroll down far enough to see that. My state is compliant which might be the reason this hasn't been in the news around here. I am surprised at how many states are not fully compliant. If I were from one of those states I would carry my passport on any trip until this is sorted out.

Yes, New York State' are "under review" so I wonder if they will be compliant by the time I plan to fly this winter. I prefer to keep my passport safe at home if I will not need it for a flight. I ust happend to read this in a mailing for a credit card company; I've seen nothing in the press.

It's been in the press for a year or two (at least in KY). I've been traveling with my passport this year because my state is stupid (although we did manage to get another extension).

It has been in the press and on the airwaves every so often since it was announced.

Washington State has received an extension until October, 2018, so I can fly with justly driver's license for another (almost) year.

In LAX right now and there was a sign at TSA check in about this and passports will be needed if you are from Minnesota, Montana, Maine and I think Missouri.

I should say driver lisences from those states wont be accepted.
