Flight Schedule Changes: Is this common?

Hi everyone! I got a good deal on round trip tickets from Travelocity using US Airways. I book these tickets on Feb 03 and so far my flights going to Las Vegas has been changed twice. When I first booked, my flight had a layover in Charlotte for 40 minutes with an arrival time in LV of 8:46 pm. That changed to a 3 hour layover in Charlotte with an arrival time of 10:43 pm. Now my layover in Charlotte is 4 hours 40 minutes with an arrival time of 10:34 pm. This time I am also having to leave on an earlier flight before my arrival in Charlotte.<BR>My question is this a common practice or what?

I also have flights booked that have changed several times, not like yours have but just several minutes here and there, then they send me a new invoice. I booked this ticket about a year ago on NWA from San Jose to Birmingham and canceled out because of 9/11 and rebooked for March 30th. At one point they had me arriving in Detroit after my connection had already left for Birmingham, good think that I looked the ticket over carefully, which everyone should do now. They are cutting and combining flights causing the changes,so be sure to check you invoice. Good Luck, Buck

That is a very long layover, but I'm confused as to why adding four hours to the layover has only pushed your arrival time in LAS by less than two hours. When your arrival time changes by MORE than two hours, that is generally the time you can take some action. I would suggest that you look over the flight schedules to see if there are earlier flights on your LAS leg that you might be able to either change to outright with the airline or that you might be able to stand-by for if you are going to be in the airport at that time anyway.

Misty,<BR>Yes, this is very common-especially this far in advance. You are smart to call at least once a month, and more often when you get closer to departure. Each time, if you get placed on undesirable flights, ask to be moved to more reasonable ones, if they exist.

Hi! Thanks for the replies. I guess some of you may be wondering how my arrival time in LV has not changed that much so I'll try to explain. My original flight, I depart Raleigh/Durham at 5:30 pm, arrive in Charlotte at 6:20 pm, leave Charlotte at 7:00 pm and arrive in Las Vegas at 8:46 pm. That was changed to depart RDU at 5:05 pm, arriving in CLT at 5:52 pm, leaving CLT at 9:00pm and arriving in LAS at 10:43. Just yesterday, this was changed again to departing RDU at 3:15 pm, arriving in CLT at 4:06 pm , leaving CLT at 8:50 pm and arriving in LAS at 10:34 pm. Fortunately so far my flights leaving from Las Vegas have not changed more than an hour. If possible, I would just as soon skip RDU altogether and fly out of CLT but from what I have read, the airlines won't let you skip leg A of a flight. The reason we are flying out of RDU instead of CLT is because there is over $100 difference for each ticket (six of us going so quite a difference in money). This did not make a lot of sense to me either. I took US Airways to Canada last June, made reservations appx 3 months in advance and had no changes what so ever in my flights but I guess maybe a lot has changed since 9/11. I think I'll check with US Airways and see if I can find any earlier flights and see if there is any way possible to get my arrangements changed. Of course, the way my flights have been changing so much there is no telling what I'll be offered by the time May gets here when I'll be flying out. Any suggestions anyone? Thanks

Misty,I have had good experiences with US Airways when it came to changing the times of the flights that were booked. They changed our flight to Orlando four times. Finally I called and they said they would book me on whatever flight I wanted that day. So I selected the time and flight with no fee or problems.Call them.I'm sure you can work something<BR>out with them.

Misty,<BR><BR>When you purchase deeply discounted tickets, what do you really expect. The people on this board sound as if they should be given first class treatment. Your paying absolute bottom dollar from these websites. And yet you want the prime flying privileges that others pay 2 and 3 times more for and even higher. Just never ceases to amaze me.

Airlines have to re-bid on their routes every quarter. So if you've booked your flight before one of those quaterly changes, you will most likely see some schedule changes. Sometimes multiple changes and sometimes the flights won't line a up. A good travel agent will ensure that the flights don't "mis-connect" and keep up updated on your flights.<BR><BR>Good Luck,<BR><BR>Bobbi

Hi Debby, Thanks for your reply. I contacted Travelocity and am able to get a flight with a short layover in Philadelphia. So we may take this flight. As for the previous poster, Reply, I do not expect preferential treatment, when contacting Travelocity I asked if it would be possible for a layover of no more than 3 hrs and if they could not accomodate that request than that we would settle for what we have and that I appreciated whatever help that they could provide us with. I feel that people should spend their money however they choose. If someone wants to pay full price for a car, furniture, airline tickets or what ever, then I say go for it, its your money. I prefer to get a quality product at the best price that I can.

Thanks Bobbi for your reply. I didn't realize that the airlines rebid on routes each quarter, so thanks for the information. Apparently that is why I am having so many schedule changes. So far Travelocity has been good about keeping me updated on flight changes. Each time they have called my home and left a message on my answering machine and have emailed me. I have a good travel agent that I am well pleased with but this was simply too good of an offer for me to refuse. When I book a cruise next year,I will most probably book through my travel agent. Thanks again.

Yeah and the bottom feeders who suck up all the good space is what leaves those of us who can not purchase online with the hours and hours and hours of layovers and hundreds of dollars more spent.

1. No one who says "I feel sorry for those people" ever does. It's just snotty code for "yeah, well, yer another!"<BR><BR>2. "reply" --&gt; "Yeah, well, yer another!" I thought this was useful information, but there are people whose only reason for reading and posting on this website is to be annoying. You're another one.
