First name missing on passport

Hi,

In my passport FIRST name is missing and the entire name (first name and last name) appears in Last name. My VISA says First name: FNU and Last name: abc def.

While booking the air ticket what should I specify in First name and Last name

Thanks.

Is this for real? Maybe I am being overly cautious, but, assuming the question is legitimate, my advice is to correct your passport ASAP. I don't know where you live, but in courthouses in the U.S., a court clerk is supposed to make sure your name on the passport application matches exactly the name on your birth certificate and, in my experience, driver's license. Authorities in some places may be more lax, and other countries have their own requirements. But someone screwed up and you need to get the passport replaced or you could face problems not just with airlines and TSA but gaining entry into some countries. Some might accept a passport like that, but others might consider it counterfeit.

I agree it needs to be corrected ASAP. The last thing you want to do these days is to raise eyebrows at the airport or while going through customs, and a strange looking passport will surely do that. I would not even attempt to travel using a messed up passport.

I agree that you must correct this before you cross any borders.

Several year's ago I was told, by someone I had no reason to doubt, that he and his wife had been politely but firmly diverted at LHR passport control because his wife's middle initial was a D, as in Dr. on her airline ticket and file, rather than and S which was the first initial of her middle name.

Because all airlines are required to collect passport information now, it is quite possible that this kind of passport problem could lead to a failure to issue a boarding pass or denied boarding. But, from my reading of the state department web site,(we just renewed our passports) you are going to have to make an appointment at the local passport agency to correct the problem. At the least, you should call one of them to find out how to deal with it.
