Feedback Delta tix price/miles sfo-atl

Charnees' success is prompting me to ask.

We already scored BC tickets during a Lufthansa sale ATL-FRA -ATL and need to tie up the SFO-ATL trip for the last two weeks in March.

I'm seeing $1300 for two (economy) on Delta paying cash or using 120k miles with Skymiles. They are nonstop, and the times do work for us.

Of course my "companion certificate" from Amex isn't available this day/flight.

I haven't booked domestically in a long time; does the fare seem reasonable? The miles sure don't!

Thoughts?

ann, I saw your question on the other thread. Personally, I wouldn't use miles for a domestic flight, but that's just me. I'm a hoarder. I guess you have no flexibility with dates because you need to get to ATL on a certain date and time? You might be stuck paying that price unless you have some wiggle room. I don't fly to ATL so I'm not sure of the going rate. $650pp seems high, though.

Hi Leely2, thanksfor the feedback. Yeah I have ALWAYS used the miles for overseas flights so it breaks my heart to blow so many going to Atlanta!! But you're right; little flex on this trip.

Sorry Leely I somehow missed your very kind reply on the other thread.

I reviewed that flyertalk method you mentioned and also couldn't get the knack of it nor find the lower mileage flights that could work.

Are you asking about an SFO-ATL-SFO roundtrip? What dates?

Hi mrw, Mar 17-31; just booked 2 coach, might upgrade with miles later, at least for the return trip. Had to have a particular schedule to coordinate with the ATL-FRA leg, so stuck with $625 fares.

So, what you really wanted was an SFO-FRA roundtrip award with a stopover in ATL. That is if that stopover would be allowed.

Or an award with an open jaw: SFO-ATL-FRA-ATL, spend time in Atlanta, and then one-way ticket ATL-SFO (which would be $220 or $248 pp on 3/31).

Oh, never mind. Those are LH tickets for ATL-FRA-ATL, not DL award tix. This is the second post that I didn't read and understand the first time. Sorry.

Thanks anyway, mrwunrfl; always appreciate your contributions and working the problem.

The original biz class sale offer didn't include west coast connections; I grabbed the ATL-FRA-ATL and figured I'd deal with the rest later. Seeing the high mileage requirement from Delta using FF for the SFO-ATL legs, I just bagged it and decided to pay. Might upgrade that last leg (ATL-SFO) from coach, since that will be a very long day....

Thanks. I figured it out. If DL upgrade costs depend on fare code then your H fare on SFO->ATL might be worth upgrading too. Have a great trip!
