fares to Ireland

I'm just starting to plan a month (or so) long trip to Ireland. We could leave in late July and need to return by Sept 2. Right now, the fares are just under $1100; I'll pay that if it seems reasonable--or I could wait to see if fares go down, knowing that they could go up. Your thoughts? Thanks.

Since you don't say where you are leaving from, it's hard to judge the fares. However, you will be travelling in peak season. Did the fare you quote apply to that period? Fares from the US midwest for that time currently start at about the rate you quote. Prices do jiggle up and down constantly, but to expect a significant decrease at the last minute is a real gamble. Is it worth saving $100 by enduring two or three months of uncertainty?

Southam, you are absolutely correct that I forgot that crucial piece of information: I was looking at non-stop Chicago (ORD) to Dublin flights.

The fares didn't seem outrageous to me, but I'm a bit out of touch. The last two times we went to Europe, we used FF miles.

Aer Lingus flies out of Chicago and is worth watching. Thanks in part to its Irish rival for European travel, the ultra-aggressive RyanAir, an attitude of competitive pricing seems to characterize the airline. Its website offers to e-mail promotions; it might be worth signing up. http://www.aerlingus.com/en-CA/home/index.jsp

Done--good idea, southham

I signed up for fare alerts on some other websites, too.

As of today $982 on AerLingus. Over $1000 on Expedia.

Aerlingus has some pretty far fares as a rule..under $1000 sounds good to me for direct from ORD. Don't wait too long!!

Aer Lingus' website lets you see different fares on different dates if you have any flexibility.

Hug Ireland for me!
