Epinephrine allowed in handcarry?

I'm flying to Asia on Wednesday. We just found out that our son was allergic to nuts after a severe allergy episode last week. We now have to carry Epinephrine auto injectors wherever we go just in case it happens again. My question is, because it is a syringe like apparatus, will they allow me to bring this on the plane? Will I need a special letter from my doctor or will the security people be familiar with this type of medication? Thanks in advance!!

The tsa.gov website suggests that as long as the Epi-pens are clearly labeled and submitted for inspection, you'll be fine:

I don't know that a letter from your MD would expedite the process. Just keep the Epi-pens in their original labeled packaging.

Have you checked on whether or not it is ok to bring that medication into the country you are visiting?

If not, then you can get some info at travel.state.gov Find the Consular Information Sheet for the country or countries you are visiting and check.

In Japan, for example, it is illegal to import some over the counter and prescription drugs. The CIS for Japan says that you should bring a copy of the prescription and a letter stating the purpose of the drug. If you are visiting Japan then it would be a good idea to have that info translated to Japanese.

Here is a link for the info I mentioned.

I see, you are going to Singapore. The sheet for Singapore doesn't have the warnings about prescription drugs like the one for Japan.

mrwunrfl, thanks! My husband just asked me the same question! Will check on the website. We will be going to Manila flying Eva air so I have to check Taiwan for their regulations, then a side trip to Singapore as well.
