Enough layover time in Heathrow
 

Flying on AA landing at Heathrow at 7:50am. Taking separate flight from LHR on BA to Prague. Two choices on Prague flight. BA has a 10:20am and a 12pm flight to Prague. Would like to take the 10:20 flight (giving me 2 1/2 hrs between flights) but from frequent previous experience with delays and the size of Heathrow, is this the best choice?

According to BA, they fly out of Terminal 3. I don't know when your flight is, so I can't totally verify this.

AA only uses Terminal 3.

Took me less than 3-4 minutes to find this.

We just did those same flights in May. Our AA flight was on time so we had no problem. We arrived in Term 3 and the 10:20 BA flight to Prague left from Term 3. The problem with Heathrow is they don't tell you your Gate # until a maybe a half hour or so before your flight departs. Once our Gate # was announced, it was a bit of a hike to get there. But we made it with time to spare.

When you say you are taking a "separate flight", do you mean one ticket on two different airlines? Or do you mean you have booked a separate flight to Prague?

Legal transfers in Heathrow are pretty clearly spelled out on BA's web site, and those times are fairly accurate unless there's an unexpected meltdown. You always have to go through security again at Heathrow, so that takes time, and moving between terminals takes time, but this seems doable if you are within the OneWorld alliance and have a single ticket (if you book the 10:20 am flight and miss it, then BA will put you on the 12pm flight). But never book 2 separate tickets.

Single ticket: take the 10:20 flight; it will be plenty of time.
Separate tickets: I'd consider the 12:00 flight just to be safe in the event of a major inbound delay.

If I could be guaranteed that the BA flight would leave from T3, I'd take the second flight, even on separate tickets, but I'm not sure how frequently BA switches the terminals for their flights.
