Effective January 1, 2009 Delta Skymiles will expire on a 2 year rolling basis

https://www.delta.com/skymiles/about...dex.jsp#policy

Previously, expiration always reset to December 31 two years forward meaning that if you had activity on January 1, 2007, your expiration would be reset to December 31, 2009. With the change, if your last activity was on January 1, 2007, then your new expiration will be January 1, 2009 (I'm just guessing that it'll be retroactive based on what they did last time but the DL website isn't exactly clear on this). Rolling expiration is more in line with other carriers' policies.

Thanks Patty.

I should've titled this "...Skymiles expiration will reset on a 2 year rolling basis". Didn't intend to make it sound like they're going a la Southwest, sorry.

Thanks Patty-I'll have to keep better tabs on all the family members accounts now.

Topping as a reminder.

Seems fair and is OK with me. Since I have most of my miles on Delta, I make sure to charge a monthly item to my Delta Amex, that way I get credit each month and advance my expiry date.

Just to update - they will begin enforcing this in April https://www.delta.com/skymiles/about...dex.jsp#policy

Thanks for this - I am still trying to figure something out and apologize if this is a stupid question - but here goes. I have my regular Amex (not the Delta Amex) linked to my Sky Miles account, and I just convert all of my Amex "member rewards" to Sky Miles every few months. If I convert member rewards points to Sky Miles, would that be a qualifying activity? I see that using the Delta Amex would be, but I can't find anything about Amex member rewards. I guess I'm trying to figure out if I need to start just using my Delta Amex (I do have one, but I never use it).

Moving AMEX Membership Rewards points to DL does qualify. That's what I did late last year, moving 1000 miles to my DL account. That act extend the expiration for 2 years.

How (and when) is Northwest World Perks going to merge with the Delta program? I have a bunch of credit with NW and they currently don’t have expiration.

Sometime this year, NW WP will no longer exist, and your miles will become Skymiles. I assume you'll get 2 years from that date before those miles expire.
