E-ticket help. Please!
 
What kind of paperwork is issued when you're using an e-ticket?
I haven't received anything except my receipt from paying for the tickets and I leave in 3 weeks. I booked them through Flight Centre (http://www.flightcentre.com.au/) and am flying on Qantas and AA.
I know the flight numbers of all the flights and what time they depart/arrive, but that's pretty much it.

you get no paper work - thus the name e(electronic)ticket. You have several options depending on the airline. I'm an AA flier out of DFW so these are the options they offer:

* print your boarding pass up to 30 hours before departure. Go into their website (aa.com) and access your account. This means you have a FF number and password

* go to the airport and use the kiosks. Swipe your credit card and the boarding pass will print out.

* go to the ticket counter and work with an agent although this isn't necessary as AA has reps to help at the kiosks for just this thing and checking luggage

Oopps just saw you're international. You have to go to the coutner at some point as they will check all your documents.

yeah sorry I forgot to say I'm coming from Oz to the USA.
How do I prove that I have a ticket to leave the country if I don't have any tickets or paperwork?

I get e-tickets when I book online with AA and they send you an email that just says 'e-ticket receipt', and then it lists the confirmation number/record locator and itinerary. Down at the bottom in small print it says: "Please print and retain this document for use throughout your trip." So even though it is called a 'receipt' it is actually your paperwork to fly. Since you didn't book directly thru the airline, don't know if the receipt you got is the same as the type AA issues - maybe you should contact Flight Centre and find out...enjoy your flight to the states! :)

All you need is your ID when checking in.

It's a good idea to write down the locator number and keep it with you, but in all my flying I never once had any need for it.

locator number? sorry I really have no idea.
My receipt just says $xxx paid. etc.

I'll give them a call in the morning...

The locator is a 6-digital code that can be both letters and numbers. Sometimes it's printed as 6 digits together, sometimes it's 3 and 3. So it may look something like:

VT5 T89

or

Z547T9

on your email receipt.

After you find it, you should register on aa.com and you should be able to locate your reservation on that website, check-in, print out copies of your receipts, etc...

Thanks for all your help. I now have the locator numbers and feel much better about it all.
I've been reading on here for a little while and have found everyone to be so friendly and reassuring, and it's so great knowing all of you are here to answer any questions people have (even the stupid ones like mine).

Hi ...

As someone who flys BA reguarly, I am used to having an e-ticket.

I take my exec card to the self service machine, put in the machine, type my locator no in when requested, follow the instructions in selecting seat, go to fast bag drop to get rid of bags. Very quick ... 10/15 minutes max to check in.

The machines gives you your ticket & seat details for the flight.

On the way back I do the same ... very quick !!

If I'm flying without bags .. ie going for the day, then I can check in for return journey while checking in for my outbound flight.
