Duty Free Liquor
Hi all,
My Lady Wife and I shall be flying from ATL to Bucharest via Amsterdam. If we buy a bottle of Bourbon at ATL duty free will we pick it up in AMS or in Bucharest? If we pick it up at AMS, can we carry it in our carryon luggage? Thanx ((I)) |
Replied in the lounge, but for others here is my reply:
If the liquor is in a sealed bag, with the receipt, and you present it separately at the security check you can take it with you to Bucherest. http://www.schiphol.nl/Travellers/At...l/Transfer.htm |
If you buy at ATL duty-free then you will probably carry the package from the shop onto the plane at ATL. The only other way that I've seen it work is where the shop delivers the stuff to your plane and you pick it up there.
But, you might want to find out if there is duty-free on arrival at the Bucharest airport. I haven't been to Romania but have seen it in other countries. Am curious about duties, so I looked for info. Found the following link about Romania. http://www.dutycalculator.com/countr...-into-Romania/ No duty up to €150. There is a VAT on imports but I would think that a single bottle of bourbon doesn't qualify as an import. There is excise duty on alcohol, but that seems minimal. http://www.cfe-eutax.org/taxation/excise-duties/romania Wine "The rate in Romania is 0 EUR per hectoliter still wine and 34.05 EUR per hectoliter sparkling wine. Fermented beverages other than wine and beer. The taxes are the same as by wine." 1 hectoliter = 100 liters. So that bottle of bourbon would have 0 EUR excise tax (same as by wine). But even if it was taxed as sparkling wine the duty would be 0.34 EUR. There is the convenience of buying the bottle at the airport and you will pay for it. If you wanted to save a buck (and if I am right about the VAT) then you might be better off buying it at home and putting it in your checked luggage. http://blog.tsa.gov/2014/01/tsa-trav...ling-with.html |
