Dulles Airport -- post blizzard public transportation to District

I have a friend arriving from LHR on Saturday, Feb 13.

I am not in Washington now and can't seem to find out what public transportation options are running from IAD to the Dupont Circle area.

Can you help?

The only thing I know of from Dulles to DC is a bus or a taxi. It kind of sucks, the taxi is about $50. Maybe someone else can think of something else though.

The Metro has reopened most of its above ground stations. Its possible to take the Washington Flyer http://www.washfly.com/ to the West Falls Church Metro Station (Orange Line). Take that to Metro Center and transfer to the Red Line towards Shady Grove or Grosvenor to Dupont Circle.

Also there is the Super Shuttle. Bus lines are slowly returning to normal and its possible that by tomorrow the one that services Dulles may be operating, the 5A. Check the metro site for updates http://www.wmata.com/

My experience is that $50 for a taxi is on the low side.

Thanks a lot. Yes, my experience is that $50 is on the low side, especially in difficult weather. It is useful to know that SuperShuttle is running again.

$50 is low, expected more like $70. But your alternatives are awful right now. Metro is in full breakdown mode. They can't even keep the underground sections going (a Red line train derailed near Farragut North this morning and sections of the Blue Line were out). After my commute in on the Red Line today (pre-derailment), I'm walking home.

I agree with Eric -- the money for a taxi will be money well spent unless a miracle occurs overnight. I cant imagine the Super Shuttle isnt having trouble getting around, many/most secondary street are still unplowed

I would just take Metrobus 5a. Fare is around $2. Go to Rosslyn or L'Enfant Plaza and then taxi or Metro.
