Donating Miles to Soldiers
 

I've heard it can be done since the military is only flying service men and women to certain cities and then they are on their own for the rest of the way home. Does anyone know how to go about donating one's miles to military personnel? I check AA's advantage site but found nada. Thanks yall.

It's something that may become moot, as the government is starting an unprecented plan of flying service members to their home, not just to a "jumping off point" in the U.S.

Unless you points are expiring soon, why not wait & if this happens, donate to something like "Make a Wish"?

Donating to service people sounds nice, but as a VietNam Era veteran - we always had to pay our own way - Uncle Sam only paid to get us from home to Boot Camp, then from duty station to duty station, then back home again. If you wanted to go home for "vacation" you paid from your own pocket. Service people today are MUCH better compensated than then (and do much less "grunt work" too), so I fail to see why they should consider paying from BWI & 2 other locations a hardship. Sorry that this sounds bitter, it's not, only "hard facts"

Man, that was one bitter poster. Strange logic: don't give a soldier a break today, because I got a bad deal thirty years ago.

I just donated 1000 miles out of each of our family's mileage accounts. Our miles were going to expire Dec. 31 and by donating 1000 miles to hero miles I was able to keep our accounts active for an additional three years at no expense to us and hopefully a benefit to someone else.
