Does FRA offer "golf cart" type transfers for mobility impaired?
 

I posted an initial enquiry on the Germany forum, but suspect this forum might have valuable input as well.

We're flying Lufthansa SEA >FRA >JNB next April.

I keep hearing how big the FRA airport is but have no idea how that translates.

My husband will probably need transfer assistance between the arrival gate and either the Business Class Lounge or possibly through security if we book a day room (given our 8-12 hour layovers each direction).

Does anyone know if arrangements can be made for transfer via golf cart type vehicles or whether wheelchairs are the only option?

I have checked the FRA airport and Lufthansa sites, but transfers are not specified by method.

Thanks for any input. Thought I would ask here before I wade through the automated airline reservation/information system when I have an hour to be on hold :-)

My husband and I (not impaired, but we are seniors) were collected at FRA by a Thai 1st class agent after getting off our flight from Bangkok. There was no cart. I asked. We had a very long walk to our next gate, being escorted thru a quick security and passport check. So in my experience, no to the cart. I got the impression they were not allowed? But things could be different for someone who is physically impaired.

Thanks...I will check directly with Lufthansa but also remember that the l-o-n-g walk inside Heathrow seemed populated by wheelchairs with nary a golf cart in sight.

There isn't really any way to know since you won't know at which gate you'll arrive. Could make a significant difference.

There's a Sheraton hotel right at the Frankfurt airport, and they have offerred day rooms. You'll have to email the hotel directly for a day room reservation.

The l-o-n-g walks at FRA are when you have to go from Hall A to Hall B, through the tunnel. If you're heading to/from the hotel, you would not have that route.

Thanks...it looks like I need to contact them directly to see if they have an assistance option in addition to wheelchairs (which my husband hopes to avoid :-)

There is a train for changing terminals. I have never seen a cart in either terminal.

I think it is up to the FraCare to decide a relevant form of transport.
