Gardyloo , hoping you won’t mind applying your astounding knowledge to my RTW hopes.

I’m keen to use QANTAS FF points for a oneworld RTW business class itin.

What I have in mind is:
KUL (origin though not my home)
DIA
ORD
JFK
HKG
SIN
BNE
SYD
SIN
(then KUL if needed to close out the RTW)

Would this work or have I breached one of their myriad rules?

many thanks in advance

Hi, Dwarves.

Oneworld's RTW products are only for paid, not award, trips. If you want to use QFF miles you'll have to go through the Qantas website for redemptions.

As to your route IF you were flying on a paid Oneworld Explorer, assuming "DIA" means "IAD," Washington DC Dulles airport (DIA is a small airport in Wyoming) it would be invalid because you can't re-enter the continent of origin once you've left it, until the end of the trip. There's an exception for visiting Australia en route to/from other continents, but your plan would make that infeasible because you'd have more than one stop in Asia en route to Brisbane from North America. So to be legal you'd need to go something like JFK-LAX-BNE-SYD-HKG-SIN-KUL. Hope that makes sense.

You'd also need to connect or stop somewhere in Europe or the Middle East en route from KUL to the USA, and count all the segments to make sure you're within the 16-flight max (which it sounds like you would.) A route like KUL-DOH-IAD-ORD-JFK-LAX-BNE-SYD-HKG-SIN-KUL would be valid. You could also end in Singapore if you wanted, one of the exceptions to the rule that you must end in the same country where you started.

But clarify if you want to use points or cash for this trip.

Thanks so much, and I must apologise, I got the IATA code wrong - DIA should have been DOH, for Doha. Qatar flies KUL-DOH and DOH-ORD.

So, correcting my idiotic error, my plan is KUL DOH ORD JFK HKG SIN BNE SYD SIN.

I did at least get my intended payment method right. It’s only worth doing on points. I’ve already confirmed points availability of the individual flights I want.

If it's using points then any route you choose is fine if there's availability. Happy travels!

Gardyloo

Okay, now I’m confused!

Everything I’ve read on pointhacks suggests the same rules apply to RTW oneworld Explorer points redemptions as they do for paid fares? eg the pointhacks post on "QANTAS round the world classic award guide" (unfortunately as a new joiner here, I can't post links)

Hence my query - on my read it seems I do need to meet all their wild rules even when redeeming points.

Am I missing something?

thanks again

D
