Do I have to do boarding pass online with ff on AA

We have our ff tickets which were sent by email. We have the seat assignments. So can I wait to get to the airport to get our boarding passes or do I do them online?..(I am used to Southwest as you can see).

Either way....

On line will be easier, but again, either way is fine.

Have a good trip!

Let's get one thing clear. This is an e-ticket? and it's not international?

If yes to at least 1 of the 2, then my answer will be different.

AAFrequentFlyer Aug 25th, 2005 04:37 PM

I had a very busy day. If it's a NO to the first question and a YES to the second question, then and only then my answer will be different. :-)

and on that note I will sign off. I have been looking at this bright screen for way too many hours today. :-D

AAFF, (or anyone else) why can't AA do on-line boarding passes for international flights? A couple of months ago I was in the UK and BA allowed us to print our boarding passes and check in online for the flight home from LGW ot IAH. I didn't try it for the flight from IAH to LGW because I didn't think it was allowed. So why isn't it possible on AA?

I believe the OP is asking not whether it's possible to get the boarding passes online but whether it's required to do so. At least that's how the title and post are worded: "can I wait to get the airport...?"

Does any airline actually require you to check in online? Hard as it may be to believe, even today some people aren't computer users (my elderly mother, for one!).

Now I am confused. Yes it's San Diego to Boston and international to Paris from there...with a change of plans. So now do I need to get boarding pass here?

Thanks

loisco Aug 25th, 2005 05:39 PM

It would help if I could type...I meant change of planes not plans, lol.

NotMe Aug 25th, 2005 06:13 PM

I don't believe any of the US airlines allow online check in for international flights, only for flights in the US. Not sure why - probably security related.

rkkwan Aug 25th, 2005 06:45 PM

NW has OLCI for international flights for a while now, but someone's supposed to check your travel document again at the airport.

CO has OLCI for international, but only if you already have your passport scanned at an airport check-in kiosk prior. So, first time, no. Thereafter, yes.

loisco Aug 25th, 2005 08:32 PM

So when we land in Boston we race over to the proper gate and check in for the Paris flight..
Thanks so much

rkkwan Aug 25th, 2005 09:20 PM

No, you will have both your boarding passes when you check-in at San Diego. Just walk to the gate in Boston and wait for them to call for boarding. That's all.

AAFrequentFlyer Aug 26th, 2005 12:48 AM

Just to confirm. You can't check in on line. You will need to do it in SAN. You and your luggage will be checked all the way through. No need to do anything else in BOS, just walk over the the appropriate gate and await boarding.

<b>P_M</b>,

I suspect the reasons are that the AA system is a little antiquated and the IT people are not the sharpest pencils in the business. AA is testing <b>kiosk</b> check in for international flights. The funny thing is that it's only available in some Canadian, Heathrow and maybe one other airport for flights into US.
True <b>on-line</b> check in for international flights is still couple of years away. After all, your passport info needs to be verified, so you still need to see a person or kiosk once you're at the airport.

I rather imagine that the reason you can't print your own boarding passes for interenational flights is that the airline clerks must verify that you have a valid passport before issuing the pass.

LoveItaly Aug 27th, 2005 02:22 PM

I was just going to say....and then noticed Underhill did!! That is what I have always understood. Your passport has to be verified before you are giving your boarding pass. Yes loisco, you get your boarding passes straight through to Europe at the San Diego Airport. Best wishes and have a wonderful trip.
