Do I have to change terminals in Zurich?
 

I will be arriving in Zurich on Swiss Air flight 65 from MIA and transferring to Swiss Air flight #1804 to Istanbul. Does anyone know if I have to change terminals or are both flights in the same terminal?

The flights are in the same "terminal". However, you will likely have to re-clear security, and will likely have to transfer from one section of the terminal to the other, kind of rendering the question moot.

Thanks - at least it's in the same terminal and I don't have to take a shuttle to a different one. I don't mind having to clear security again.

Well, you will have to take a tram from the intercontinental terminal to the other terminals. This will take 15+ minutes. The security clearance is the important thing. This will be comparable to security screening in the US or anywhere else. Count on at least 1:15 for your connection.

The tram connects the concourse where US and other longhauls flights use at ZRH to the main concourse.

You would not. travelgourmet is confused.

For Star Alliance in Zurich, US flights and most non-Schengen flights operate from Terminal E. All Schengen flights, and a few non-Schengen flights, use Terminal B.

You have to take the train shuttle to get to or from Terminal E, and you may be entertained by cows and yodelers en route. You do not need the train if both flights are in Terminal E.

But the real question is why flgirl0817 is obsessing over this (this is at least the 2nf forum where she's asked the identical question)? Changing airplanes is pretty much the same in every airport on the planet:

1. Get off the first plane
2. Look at a TV monitor to learn the gate number of your connecting flight
3. Look for a sign that either directs you to that gate or says "all connecting flights"
4. Walk until you get there

Why overcomplicate things?

First of all the reason I posted the same question on 2 forums is just in case I do not receive an answer on one of the forums.

Secondly, I am not obsessed. I just like to be prepared.

Thirdly, this forum is supposed to be for people to ask questions, not to be berated for asking a simple question. I think I will just ask any questions on a different forum, not this one - people get too snarky on here.

Today, your flight from Miami arrived at the midfield terminal (E gates) - where it should always arrive.
Your connecting flight to Istanbul departed from the main terminal (B gates).
So, today, you would have had to use the aforementioned train that connects the midfield terminal with the main terminal to proceed to your connecting flight to Istanbul.
Other flights to Istanbul departed from E gates today, though.

Which means: It can be this way or that way.
But since you have 1 hour and 40 minutes between your flights, there is no reason whatsoever to get nervous.

Just double-check the departure gate on the monitors when you arrive since they could have changed since you got issue the boarding passes in Miami the day before.

There is usually an airport map in the airline magazine onboard. I review that before landing, so I have a general idea the possibilities. And you really do need to check the monitors once you come off your 1st flight, because stuff changes last minute (boarding moved to a different gate or whatever). I'm also not afraid to ask the cabin attendants if they know, sometimes they'll have that information, sometimes not.

Sure, you're most welcome. I've never transited at Zurich but really it's a pretty universal answer (even what DonTopaz said although I'm not sure why he couldn't have been a little nicer about it). Hopefully you have a decent amount of time. That's the only thing that really matters about transfering planes (in my opinion and experience), is not cutting it too close time-wise. good luck!

Here's some completely frivolous advice. Zurich is my favorite airport for buying chocolates. My favorite is the cognac chocolate, containing real cognac inside. They also have a great chocolate with a brandy filling.

Why don't YOU do a little research? Go to the ZRH airport website and you can actually SEE which gate that flight normally leaves from.
