Discount first class
 

Has anyone used any of the so-called discount ticket agencies on the Web, such as Tripmakers or 1st Class Miles, to purchase first-class seats at a discount? Are they reliable? Do they have legitimate discounts for guaranteed first-class seats or are they riding on upgrades which can be rescinded at the last minute? Would like to hear any info or experiences you've heard of or had personally.

<BR>If you are flying from Europe the normal 'dodgy deal' is getting a ticket from Paris to London to New York for example then selling it as London New York. Believe it or not Paris New York via a hub is normally cheaper than just from the hub. <BR><BR>This is illegal and if you are caught you will have to pay the surcharge.<BR><BR>You may get away with it but you also may be caught

Are you saying that this is what the agencies do to get the discounts? What about U.S. agencies? I know that flying from a hub is usually more expensive, but is this the only way they obtain their discounts?<BR>

Agencies buy dixcounted first class from consolidators. For example LA London on a 'published' fare on AA is 14424.00 ouch. Through a consolidator it may be 4000.00. Use a good one if you go that route as there are many who are crooks like Daniel mentioned. I know of one in NYC thats making a fortune selling shady fares.

How do you find a consolidator and how do you know which is a good one?

And some agencies and tour operators have their own contracts, with low rate, with various arilines. It sometimes pays to look around and see if a tour operator will sell just an air ticket (although many require a land package as well).

Keely, I don't know if this is exactly what you are asking, but for very cheap first class travel within the US have a look at Midwest Express Airlines. Their entire product line is touted as first class for coach fares. They are consistently rated the top domestic airline in the US. Big leather seats 2x2, good food, great service, and coach fares. Also, not exactly first class, but Airtran allow upgrades to business class for $25 if available.
