Desperate! United.com booking engine changed and can not search or book
Fodorites, please help! Am a United FF member
(Premier), and have always used united.com to
book travel and search for flights. Just a few minutes ago, tried to search for flights putting
in airport codes and dates of travel, and then clicked "search" and page came back empty, e.g.
boxes with particulars cleared of any info. Tried
troubleshooting, e.g. clearing history, emptying
cache, but no result. Do not have firewall, anti
cookie (think this is concept), or any other security
on home computer. Have always been able to
book online, including very recently. Called United web support, which was basically clueless.
Said entire booking engine system was changed Saturday (two days ago), and would make a "report" to programmers. Rep also said not familiar with Mac. I use Internet Explorer and my
provider is Earthlink. Rep said Safari would not
help (don't use anyway) since more problems. Had no advice. Can not imagine what to do, since daughter is in grad school in a city ONLY
served by United and need to purchase tickets for her. If use agent, will lose online booking bonus
and there is a charge to ticket. But even beyond that, I do not want to be prevented from ever making a search of flights/booking on United. Can someone with a Mac do a "test" to see if same problem, and report back. Also need any other advice you kind persons can provide. Thank you.

It's working fine for me right now (logged in and logged out; Windows/Firefox). I did have a problem searching yesterday, although it cleared up after a while. There have been some hiccups since the "beta" site became the main site over the weekend.
FWIW, I have had some similar issues in the past (old site) that could only be fixed by rebooting the computer...but maybe you've tried that??
There's a long thread on the UA board at Flyertalk that covers various issues with the new site. You might take a look at that to see if any Mac users are experiencing something similar.

What version of IE are you using? On the IE menu click on Help and select the About option. The version on my Windows PC is 6.0 but I don't know the current version of a Mac. Upgrade it if you can. I don't know much about Macs, but if it was a PC I might suggest getting the latest version of Java too.
But I think that it is probably them, not you. You could try using a different browser if you have another one installed.
A while ago, when travelocity changed to a new format I think their webpage was not completely compatible with something in Netscape. Eventually it got straightened out.
