Depositing Partner Airline Miles into UA Mileage Plus Account
 

Probably a very elementary question, but I just wanted to make sure before I purchase my tickets.

I have a UA mileage plus account and I've never had reason to fly any of their partner airlines before. I will be purchasing tickets on Continental and was wondering if I can get my United account number linked to the reservation when I purchase the tickets.

I'm purchasing my tickets from Continental's website - can I plug my UA number in where they ask for a OnePass number, or do I need to wait until check in to give my UA number?

The Continental site is accepting United Mileage Plus numbers (along with other Star Alliance partners) on passenger records as of yesterday.

There should be a field on the purchase page for FF number; it will have a drop down menu that allows you to select Mileage Plus and then enter your number. You can also find it on the passenger information page associated with the PNR after you've made a reservation.

I bought a Continental ticket for my mother about a week ago and left the FF number field blank. Yesterday, I went back into her record and was able to add her United number.

Be sure to keep your airline boarding pass and check back to ensure the miles were credited properly. Several times on partner airlines I was not properly credited for flights.

One more caveat - on the day of travel double check to make sure that it is your UA account number that appears on your boarding pass. If not have the agent correct it before you board. If any other number appears on the BP it is a whole lot of time and trouble to get it corrected later.

I admit that I usually end up shoving my boarding passes into some deep dark pocket of my carryon and it somehow manages to never see the light of day again. I'll have to remember to keep better track of them.

Do online check-in and then save a copy of your BP as a PDF file.
