Delta upgrades honeymooners?
 

Me & my wife to be will flying to the US from the UK in April. Anyone know any tricks to get an upgrade?<BR><BR>thanks in advance

International upgrades are virtually impossible, unless you're an Ex President.

...by which we mean an ex-president of Enron, perhaps. Oh, no, that was a private jet, I forgot.<BR><BR>Seriously: International upgrades were never easy and after 9/11 they are now almost impossible. But go ahead and let them know this is your honeymoon, if you can do it without seeming seriously pushy -- you might get a freebie glass of wine or an extra dessert. Suggest this: get the flight attendant's attention away from your bride's hearing and ask if you can put a rose or a diamond bracelet or something on her tray or something because you are just married -- but have the rose or the jewelry, of course! That might get you somewhere, but if not, at least you'll have a rose or jewelry on your bride's tray and get some points from her!<BR><BR>

Promise the gate attendant oral sex...

My business colleague was upgraded to business from economy because he had just made "platinum" frequent flyer.

Don't know why this was topped, but people who have made Platinum are who get the upgrades, not honeymooners.

Agree with jj. I was a Delta Platinum for four years and logged over 600k base miles. In all that time, I don't think I ever saw anyone get upgraded for this reason. Not saying it doesn't happen though..I'm sure there are examples, Never hurts to ask in the politest, most charming way possible. If there is space, who knows. Worst case, maybe you will get a free drink or two in coach.

I didn't have any luck getting a free airline upgrade on my honeymoon, but I had good luck getting hotel upgrades.<BR><BR>I sent each hotel a fax in advance letting them know we were going to be on our honeymoon and almost every hotel we stayed either gave us a dramatically nicer room or had champagne waiting for us or something else. It was really nice.

believe it or not we got seven upgrades to first class last year - but boy did we suffer before hand. We were flying UK to Florida via JFK (Delta) and we had three pensioners with us - one our 90 year old grandma. we were first to check in at the desk at JFK but they bumped us all anyway (didn't even ask for volunteers)we complained and were sent to another terminal with old ladies in tow, but there was no plane there so we got sent back - mysteriously the guy who'd sent us over had disappeared - by this time we really kicked off. However, the saga just went on and on and on. Coming home we demanded something be done about it - they upgraded us. It was worth everything we went through - it will probably never happen again in my lifetime but we savoured every moment. Good Luck Passengers!
