Delta seat assignment question

Made reservations for a RT SFO-CPH (San Francisco to Copenhagen round-trip) and got only return seats assigned.

The flights will be in August, so I don't think it's already oversold. Going there the first leg is on Delta, 2nd on KLM. Coming back, both on Delta.

Any thoughts? Should I call them? It's 5 months till the flight.

Delta should have assigned you seats on the first leg, try again or call.

I think that KLM doesn't assign until 60 or 90 days out and you will have to call, you can't do that via the Delta website (assuming you purchased on Delta)

For the KLM intra-Europe segment, if it's in economy you won't be able to get a seat assignment in advance. If it's in business, you'll be able to get a seat assignment 90 days out.

Actually are you sure the first outbound segment isn't KLM as well? Is your routing SFO-AMS-CPH? Is so, SFO-AMS is operated by KLM. You'll be able to get a seat assignment 90 days out for the transatlantic segment but not on delta.com. You'll need to do it on klm.com or call.

Thank you, both, I'll be checking if the seats open up for assignment, and call them if needed.

Patty, you are right, going there it's KLM both legs, strangely the first leg is listed as Delta, with 1 on top, and the footnote only says KLM, but the 2nd leg is KLM.

Now I don't worry - had the same with Alaska/AA before, it's just the airlines' differences.

Thanks for your help!

Well, whaddya know! KLM seat assignments work on delta.com now. I just did it for a flight in June (I checked afterwards on klm.com and checkmytrip to make sure it was real).

So for you it worked 2 months in advance, right? Our flight is early August, for me it's not working yet.

But now I feel better, thank you, Patty

Well... got tickets from Delta 2 months ago, went on Delta's website for seats for SFO-AMS, AMS-CPH - no problems with leg 1, cannot get seats for leg 2 KLM flight. I've noticed leg 1 is coach U, leg 2 is coach T.

Should I try to call somebody for seats? Or wait if it will open later? 87 days till the flight today.

On KLM website our flight is there with Delta confirmation number, but I cannot reserve the seats.

you need the KLM record locator number which is not he same as delta's. KLM should be able to give it to you on the phone,.

Leg #2 AMS-CPH is intra-Europe and you won't be able to get an advance seat assignment in economy.

Thank you, Patty and Rkk, I sent a polite e-mail, so this will probably be there answer: what you said. No harm done, I hope.

And by the way, Mztery, my Delta number worked on KLM - so you know for future travels.

in most cases with codeshares, each airline has its own record locator number.
