Delta/NWA experts - bonus mile question

Delta is running a bonus mile promo on certain flights that you have to sign up in advance.
Since I was already planning to book a flight to FCO, I decided to check flights going through DTW to get this bonus. On Delta or NWA flights are $1200, but on Orbitz I can get it for about $740. Orbitz lists the flight as KLM and when you look at it, it says codeshare operated by NWA. Will this flight qualify? I don't have to book through Delta or NWA website do I?

Here's the flight info from ITA. The rest of the connections are listed as NWA or Delta.

I would go to NWA.com and try to force it. Search by schedule and you can sometimes get the same price and it will certainly qualify. I would think the chances are less than 50/50 that you will qualify with the KLM flight number.

Also, note that KLM V fares do not earn credit in Delta's program. They still earn in the Northwest program, but it is going away at the end of the year. The operating carrier doesn't matter. In other words, a V fare under an NW # on a KLM plane earns full mileage. A KLM # on a NW plane will earn nothing.

I have both NWA and Delta ff accounts. It's not really a question of v fares. My question really was if it's branded KLM at Orbitz, but states it is operated by NWA is there any reason it wouldn't be considered a NWA flight in the promo? Usually to tell which airline the flight actually is, you look at the actual flight numbers. The lower number is the actual operator (NWA 50 in this case) and the higher number is the airline that is codesharing (KLM 6050 in this case).

I've had no problem getting miles for KLM flights in the past.

I thought I posted this link in my first thread, but guess I didn't.

In general, you won't get the bonus with a KL- or AF-issued ticket.

When I searched the flight on Kayak, it popped up as Orbitz. When I clicked on Orbitz and tried to book, the flight wasn't there and it tried to give me a flight that was double the price. After searching Kayak again, I was able to find it with a link to NWA to book. It doesn't pop-up if you just go to NWA website and try to book, but you can't get it to pop-up if you go through Kayak. I'm assuming if I book on NWA, it should qualify.

Opps. That should be you can get it to pop-up on the NWA site by linking through Kayak.

It will probably only qualify if it is an NW flight number. If it is a KL flight number I would think it won't.

And it is a question of the V fare. I guarantee that DL will not give you credit for a KL V fare. As such, even if the KL flight number would otherwise qualify, it won't if you purchase a KL V fare and try to credit to DL.

I am not sure WHAT the condidions are on the OP's "deal" but lots of them require you to book on DL or NW's website. (which is why I mised a lot of "bonus" miles in 2008 when I had to use a corporate TA site)

As has also been pointed out, if it's a KLM flight number once again it's probably a no deal. Doesn't matter whose metal it is.

I would go find your offer and read the terms and conditions. If you have lost them try looking at www.milemaven.com They keep a lot of the "offers" on file.

Have you read the "terms and conditions" of the deal? It will spell out exactly what flights qualify and what ones don't. It doesn't matter who operates the flight, it will matter what the fare base is -- F, Y, B, V etc. NW/DL will specify which fare codes earn bonus miles.

If the deal is what I think it is - the 10K bonus, you have to be on a DL or NWA flight, the KLM codeshare does not qualify as a NWA/DL flight. It doesn't have anything to do with the fare code and you do have to book on the DL/NWA site to earn the bonus.

Thanks, but my post is two months old and the promo is over.
