Delta flying to Vegas

I bought tickets through hotwire and they said they cant be exchanged for an earlir flight. However on the day of flight delta said if we contact the airport three hours before a scheduled flight out and they have available seats, we can purchase them for an extra 25.00 a piece. we may not be able to sit together but it will get us to Vegas quicker. Has anyone ever done this? We will be leaving from Buffalo New York, in October.
Thanks, Marykc

I have not done this, but I think you should check reservations the night before to make sure the early flight isn't full before making the decision. I don't think I'd enjoy waiting 3 hours at BUF.

I agree, i dont want to spend the day at the airport. They said that we could phone ahead within a three hour time frame. I believe there are five earlier flights than ours which is scheduled to leave around 6pm.

Marykc.....What you are describing is Delta's relatively new "confirmed standby" procedure.I have had great luck with this twice. The key is that it will do you absolutely no good to call prior to 3 hours prior to your previously scheduled departure. The only provision is that a seat has to be available in the same cabin as you had been booked originally.Thats the real beauty of it since I bought the least expensive fare "T" class. When I called to try to make the change, there were no "T" seats availale, but there were plenty of full fare "Y" seats. So for the $25 fee I was allowed to make the change.I hope this helps cuz it worked for me!

I am a little confused, so are you saying that We should actually be at the airport and keep checking the status of the outgoing flights for any available seats. Our flight leaves at 6:00 pm, I believe there are four or more earlier flights on that day. We live 90 minutes away from the airport.
Thanks, mkc
