Continental or Delta
 

We have the option EWR-BCN-FCO-EWR on Continental or JFK-BCN-FCO-JFK on Delta.
The Con EWR-BCN is a 757; others are 767 with an additional option to fly DAL partner Alitalia's 777 FCO-JFK.
We'll be in coach and sleeping with Ambien's help.
All opinions are welcome.

Comfort/amenities:

CO 767 > AZ 777 > DL 767 > CO 757.

No clear winner.

I would not like the the 757 to BCN. You say you'll be sleeping, so fewer middle seats might be advantageous if the flights are full. I believe CO has personal screens in coach on the 767, DL did not last time I flew coach on the 767. Food should be equal. I have no experience on AZ.

Amenities kit in coach along with one free drink and an extra ice cream(Hagen Daz)service on Delta? Two aisle airplanes are always more enjoyable for European travel.

Haven't flown coach to Europe in many years, and we too have serious reservations about the CON 757.
Unfortunately, DAL and Alitalia are a financial mess and "all" insiders have recommended we buy trip insurance which we have never, ever done.

Yes, CO's 757 is one of the least comfortable aircrafts one can fly across the Atlantic in coach, but I've done it, my parents have done it, my dad's doing it once again next year.

And few people were complaining about Icelandair using them across the Atlantic before CO started doing it.

My suggestion - get an aisle seat. Bring your own entertainment. And do OLCI as soon as possible and maybe you're lucky enough to grab a seat in Row 16.

If you fly Continental, get to the airport early and see if you can switch your seats to an exit row. Otherwise, the elite rows do have more room. And plan to keep your seat belt on for the entire flight.

wally - One can get all seats (exit row, bulkhead, etc) at OLCI. One can switch again at an airport kiosk, but at around 1 hour before flight time, that get switched again to gate control.

OLCI is allowed for most international flights from AND to the US.

i wouldn't fly a single aisle plane (757) across the Atlantic - too confining and CO gives 31" pitch no personal video screen. Alitalia's 777 is spacious with 32" pitch, indiv video and service not as bad as you hear. Just pray there's no strike!
