Connection through Detroit Airport

We are flying Delta from London to Norfolk, VA late May with a connection in Detroit (we often have to backtrack to get to Norfolk.)

Our original layover was a little over three hours. We received an e-mail from Delta with flight changes and we now have 1 hour and 20 minutes between flights. We've never been through the Detroit airport and wonder if this is enough time. We'll have checked luggage. We usually like at least two hours to deal with immigration, customs and security.

Does anyone familiar with the Detroit airport think this is a reasonable amount of time to make the flight to Norfolk, which, by the way is the last flight of the day. If we didn't make it we'd have to spend the night.

Thanks for any opinions.

I see several connections with more comfortable times via JFK and ATL. Call DL and have them switch you to one of those flights.

Thanks....that was my first thought. After 4 weeks, will not want an extra night in Detroit!

Detroit is a smaller airport. That being said, you will still have to go through customs and baggage check.

Here's a link from ifly.com explaining what you have to do.

I, personally, am pretty certain that it can't be done in the time alloted.

Call Delta for clarification about the connecting times.
