connection in Dublin on a Chicago to Prague flight
 

I’m planning a trip with family next spring and I’m curious how much time we need to give ourselves to make our connection in Dublin. Our current idea is to fly to Prague by flying American Airlines from Chicago to Dublin, arriving at 8:00am, and then connecting to an Aer Lingus flight to Prague, departing at 10:50am. It appears from Dublin Airport's website that both flights might be in and out of Terminal 2. I am hopeful that we would be able to check our luggage through to Prague. I may need to check this with American Airlines, but I thought I’d ask the forum if anyone would be able to tell me if we would need to collect our luggage, go through any sort of immigration/passport control, and recheck our luggage to Prague? I’m curious whether 2 hours and 50 minutes is enough time between these flights. Thanks!

If your incoming flight is on time, this should be fine. You will go through security at DUB. You will not go through immigration or passport control, and your bags will be checked all the way to PRG. Ireland does not participate in the Schengen Agreement, the "borderless" arrangement for travel between European countries, so your DUB connection is strictly international to international.

I meant to say, you will not go through immigration or customs at DUB.

You will probably do pre-clearance on the return so I would check to see what the procedure is especially for luggage and avoid short connection times

Thanks, everyone! On the return, we're taking a train to Frankfurt, spending a few days, then flying back to Dublin, staying a few days, then heading home, so we won't have the same kind of connection on the return.

Arriving and departing passengers do not "mix" at T2 in DUB but are handled on seperated levels of the same building.
Even if both your flights were handled from the most distant gates at T2, you would hardly walk more than 1/4 mile altogether. T2 is very easy to navigate - in fact it ain't more than just one pier.
2hrs 50mins is definetely more than enough - unless your incoming flight will be 2hrs late obviously.

If you planned to bring liquids from the US (duty free spirits or perfumes), I would not be sure how this would be handled at the security check in DUB, though.
