Connecting at EWR

In July, I (and my family of 4) will be flying PIT-EWR-FCO. Our flight from PIT arrives in Newark at Terminal A. The FCO flight then departs from Terminal C. If our flight into Terminal A doesn't arrive in the concourse where the CO bus leaves from, what is the easiest way to transfer between terminals? It is my understanding that in Terminal A, you must leave the "secure" area, then go through another security checkpoint to get between concourses.

You're flying USAirways PIT-EWR? Then you need to get out of secured area, take the free AirTrain over to C, and then reclear security.

Trekker5211 May 20th, 2008 01:45 PM

Not US AIrways (thank god!!). Continental on all legs. Its a Q400 flight from PIT-EWR.

Q400 should come in to Terminal C. But if it comes into A, it'll be at an concourse with the shuttle. Do not get out of the secured area, so you don't have to reclear security.

rk is, as usual, spot on. When you land at terminal A you will not have to leave the secure area to catch the shuttle to C. It departs from gate A28, drops you at C71. I believe FCO departs from the same wing of C where the bus arrives.

FCO flight can leave from any concourse at C. It's not that far to walk to any gate there.

CO has just recently moved all COEX ERJ flights to Terminal A, while mainline and turboprops will use C. So, the OP shouldn't have to use the bus at all if they're flying the Q400.

Trekker5211 May 21st, 2008 04:46 AM

Oh, I see rkkwan. I had thought ALL CO Express flights had been moved to A. Thanks for the clarification.

Although, look at this from CO's website:
"Newark Terminal Changes
At New York/Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), effective May 5, 2008, all Continental domestic mainline flights will operate in Terminal C. Between now and the end of June, Continental is in the process of relocating all Continental Express flights to Terminal A and during the transition period, Continental Express flights may arrive/depart at either Terminals A or C."

Trekker5211 -

Let me make this clear:

Continental Express means ERJ and CRJ. Q400 and other props are Continental Connection.

ERJs use A, Q400s use C.

PIT is mostly Q400, with a few ERJs. You said you're flying Q400, which will use C.

well your flight from pit should arrive late after holding and being slowed back. i never fly thru ewr.

Trekker5211 May 21st, 2008 12:44 PM

Sorry, rkkwan, just a little confused. I'm not the most proficient on CO...I'm a WN junkie.

rizzo- I was able to get a biz class fare for only $200 more roundtrip (per ticket) than many coach fares.

I was wondering how do you know what terminal you will be flying in and out of?

I am flying CO in June BWI-ERW-GCM and would like to know if I need to go far for the transfer. On the way home I am going to the same route with a 2 hr layover and was hoping I have enough time to clear customs.

rkkwan May 21st, 2008 04:40 PM

jiffer21225 - I assume you're arriving from GCM at EWR around 6:30p, and then take the last flight to BWI. That EWR-BWI flight is the Q400, so it's from Terminal C.

Your flight from GCM should arrive at C, but possible at B. If you come in to B, after customs and dropping off your bags, you just need to hop on the AirTrain for one stop back to C.

Security lines can be long at C because of all the evening departures to Europe, but 2 hours should be enough.

I will be arriving around 6:30pm. Thanks for the info.
