Confusing Lufthansa Carry On Weight Restrictions

A couple of years ago I got snagged by the Lufthansa 8kg carry-on rule. Back then it very clearly stated that BOTH the main carry-on bag AND the personal bag TOGETHER had to be less than 8kg (about 17 pounds).

However, now when I look at their website, it seems that ONLY the main bag is weighed. While it spells out the size restrictions for the personal bag, it does not say that it is included with the main carry-on for the 8kg max weight.

I'm reading some accounts of people who were made to transfer some things from their main carry-on bag to their personal bag to make that weight, which gives me hope that only the main bag is weighed these days.

Can anybody give me a definitive answer as to whether or not my interpretation is correct? Is the personal bag not weighed anymore?

I've never had any bag weighed on Lufthansa (other than checked), but I've only flown international, so maybe the rules are different? However we have made connections on them (intra-EU) and again, no weighing- however we already had our tickets.

I have never had then weigh my bag. In Frankfurt they load front and back from both doors and it was a cluster yuk with overhead space.

I have been in a number of Lufthansa check-in lines (in the US) where every carryon was checked for size but never weighed. I think it is up to the gate attentions and their current attitude.
