Comments on Korean Air!
 

I just booked PBI to Bangkok for Christmas this morning. The price was $1,999.00. That may seem high but when traveling to a warm country before Christmas and returning just after New Year's, prices go crazy.

Delta/Korean Air had the best times and prices. I'll fly from PBI to Atlanta on Delta and then switch to Korean Air to Bangkok with a quick change in South Korea. (There is no way I was going to fly Delta's 777 to Korea with $7.00 drinks and a fasten seatbelt sign that doesn't go off)

Cathay Pacific was another choice. On their website, they have discounted economy, which would have ment no miles with AA. I wasn't about to pay an extra $500 for miles with AA. They also had longer connection times.

BA was another choice, but with an eleven hour layover at Heathrow and packing lite, I wouldn't be dressed for taking on the tube in December.

Asian Airlines was another choice out of LAX, but I wanted this entire trip on one ticket.

I've never been to Bangkok or the area. Any suggestions. Comments on Korean Air.

Korean routinely wins high marks for coach service and comfort. By all accounts, you should get an extra inch or two of legroom vs most US carriers. ICN is supposed to be a great airport, as well.

Are you booked under a DL code, or a KE code? I don't think all KE tickets earn miles.

As for Bangkok, I would suggest springing for a nice hotel. I say springing, but it will be a bargain vs just about anywhere else in the world and the standard of service and comfort is very high. While in Bangkok, if you are interested in a tailor, I liked Rajawongsee:

From Bangkok, there are lots of day tours. Bridge over the River Kwai. Elephant trekking. River excursions. Any good hotel should have plenty of options.

Are you staying in Bangkok only? The islands can be very pricey at that time, so it might be a good time to use any loyalty points you have, if you want to hit the islands.

If you wanted to get away for a couple of days, I would also recommend Siem Reap. A short flight on Bangkok Air, and Angkor Wat is pretty amazing. Just be prepared for hawkers like you have never seen. We stayed at the Merdien (on points) and found it very comfortable.

Wally we flew Korean Air from SAV-ATL-BKK and they were fantastic! It may had something to do with being in business class but from what I saw they treated everyone with kindness. I'm not sure what you want to do in Bangkok, we love it, but look at Asoke Sofitel. It's very reasonably priced, you get breakfast included, about 1,000 sq. ft., 1 1/2 baths, washing machine and all for about $125 per night. One of the things we like best about BKK is all the different types of restaurants.

Korean does a fine job, better than Delta in coach but not as good in Business. The only problem is they tend to keep the cabin nice and toasty so be sure to wear a short sleeve shirt!

Incidentally, wrt the seatbelt light I think you are confusing Delta with someone else, Continental maybe? Delta has no rep for keeping the light on any more than necessary or than other airlines.

I've flown Korean from JFK to Asia twice in the last two years--excellent service, although the alcohol/wine selection is kind of limited. I will probably fly them again next year.
