Coming soon - an updated look for Fodors.com

Hi everyone,

I’m excited to let you know that later this week, Fodors.com will be sporting a new look and feel. As you’ve probably heard, we’re celebrating our 75th anniversary this year. Our web team has been hard at work on an updated look for our site in honor of this significant milestone.

The crisp, new design will make it easier for you to find the information you need without affecting the site’s core functionality and should not affect or change the way you currently use the Forums. We’d love to hear your feedback, and certainly want to know if you have any problems or questions. As always, you can reach me at [email protected].

Amy_D I hope that they make one change and that is to change the login interface to have the "Remember Me" box default be unchecked. That is really the standard everywhere else.

This is a forum for travelers and we log in from internet cafes and hotels around the world. At home we don't pay attention to the "Remember Me" anymore and so it becomes habit to ignore it when traveling.

Several years I was in Bali and was able to log in as rhkkmk and post under his name. Since then the interface changed and the Remember Me toggle is more visible, but it really should be off by default.

Amy while I have you....is there any reason why we cant edit our threads after we submitted them. I found myself in a couple of time just wishing I could edit something cause i fund a spelling error or even had 2nd thought and wanted to delete it.

@mrwunrfl - That's a great point. I will bring this up with our web development team and see what we can do.

@mama56 - We do not allow members to edit their posts after submitting. This could be disruptive to the conversation, especially if members edit more than just their spelling mistakes. I use Firefox to view Fodors.com because it has a helpful spell checker built in. Previewing your posts before submitting is also another way to catch mistakes before posting.

Amy_D, how many users are affected by this change? (I know - "all of them," but how many do you have signed up
?)

USE YOUR "REFRESH" BUTTON--and all the centering goes away.

We're working on fixing the centering problem. As JaneB mentioned, refreshing your page or pressing F5 will take care of the problem. Some users are also finding it helpful to log out and log back in.

Amy,

Not sure if you can fix this, but on the home page I clicked on the link to see the Fodor's apps and got "link broken"

Thanks!

Hm, not sure if the pink background on the Recent Activity panel goes with the brown background on the new banner. The old, yellow, background on the Fodor's suitcase on the Profile page, does it really go with the new banner?

I find the bright white screen and lighter blue, bold text in the left difficult to view. .More contrast to the white background would be helpful

Liking it. Still easy and intuitive to use. Scrolling seems slower, but that may just be my computer/browser.

Meant to ask:

Any plans for an iphone app for the Forum, ala the Facebook iphone app?

When I look at the list of topics that I commented on I would like to see who made the last comment. Right now there is info about number of responses and when the most recent one is. I would like to see who it is by so that I can skip it if it was me.

This doesn't need to be in the list of topics for the a forum (the pink region at left). Just in the list of my topics.

I am having a little trouble with my posts appearing in duplicate. In the 'vent in vain' thread I did a Submit and got an error (trouble with a query). And the post appeared twice. The next post appeared twice and I swear that I only clicked Submit once (not that it should matter), but I admit to being a bit spastic when clicking. I will press Submit once, now.
