Comfort level of United 747-400 vs. 777?
 

On United, is there a significant difference in the comfort level of Business Class on a 747-400 vs. 777 on a transatlantic flight?

And/or is there a signifant difference between the economy plus sections of these two aircrafts if our upgrades don't go through?

There is no difference b/w UA 744 and 777 in C class. The upper deck of 744 is preferred by some as quieter, but seating and pitch are identical with the exception of rows 6, 7, and 8 on 744 which have limited pitch.

E-plus on 777 would be preferred b/c it has in seat IFE and you have the possibility of 2 by seating near the windows, which would be good for a couple travelling together.

744 seating in E+ would, of course, be 3 by at the window.
My decision would depend in large part on your view as to whether or not the U/G was likely to go thru.

I would fly 744 in C (upper deck) and if I were flying E or E+, it would most certainly be on 777.

Not IME, and I've flown em each quite a bit. The 777 is a bit more "open" on the interior, but that's about it.

I have to say that if you sit in the very back of a 777, there's more lateral movement than most aircrafts I've been on. More than the very back of a 747.

My favorite coach seat on Continental's 772 are 44A and 44L. Very back of the plane. I definitely have my reasons for them. Flown to Europe and Asia quite a few times in one of those 2 seats.

You have made me curious. I can't imagine why anyone would want to sit in those two seats, especially since they are so close to the Lav.

The 747 is a shoebox! only 3 rows in the back of plane are two seaters but they are not that hot as next to restrooms and people are standing and leaning all over you most of trip.

Well, since so many of you asked. Here are the reasons why 44A and 44L are my favorites on CO's 772 (in fact, I call myself "Mr. 44L" in my signature on Flyertalk) :

1. These are the only 2-seaters in coach. I like a window seat to look out and take pictures (links below); but I hate having to climb over two people to get out.

2. These seats are far back enough to take good pictures without being blocked by the wings and engines.

2. These seats have full recline. And a bulkhead behind, so nobody will ever kick my seat. I can recline my seat for 14+ hours on the 15-hour flight and not bother anybody.

3. I can board first even if I have no elite status.

4. The FAs always leave water and peanuts/pretzels on the shelf behind 45DEF throughout these long flights. Short walk to get food.

There is no worry about the lavatories. The doors open to the rear, so people waiting to use the bathroom will stand near the doors. Not next to rows 44/45. [Plus, even on full flights, I've never seen more than one or two people waiting in line.] One cannot hear or smell anything from these seats.

Rkkwan, you're flurting too much with those flight attendants. That's why they keep that fasten seat belt sign on all the time. They want to keep you out of the galley.
