Christmas 2012 airfares - Australia to Europe, when best?
Hello everyone, we have never flown during the Christmas period before but have decided to cross the "White Christmas" off of our bucket list this year!
Looking at departing Australia around Dec 19 (day or two flexibility only) and returning around Jan 2 2013.
Obviously I expect to pay more for these dates but just wondering if 'sooner the better' or is there anything that resembles a 'sale' or better price later in the year?
Thanks.
Happy New Year!

Generally Tues afernoon on Tues or Wed flights
Folks are finding best oz to europe fares these
days on airasia.com where I would look for best value
when they post their sales.

I've had two European white christmasas so have and absolutely loved both of them. My last one was Christmas 2010 and I booked the flights in July 2010 (got a really good deal with Air NZ and Lufthansa at the time).
Qwavadis, unfortunately I read last week that Air Asia are about to stop their flights from NZ/Aus to Europe as of about March this year - I'm guttered about this really as I was thinking about them for my next trip.

Thanks guys. Nz101 - really, as late as July?? I'm in a dilemma then as instinct tells me to book early as I thought there would not be 'specials' at this time of the year.
The other disadvantage is leaving from Adelaide where less international carriers service but obviously will go via East Coast if necessary.
As for AirAsia, had just started looking at reviews for them - interesting to see what eventuates.

Ozgirl- the past couple of years Singapore Airlines (THE very best airline) have promoted that if you have booked a flight & the price decreases, then they will honour the lower fare for your booking. No guarantee this will happen this year, but their Europe fares are looking competitive at this stage. And this is where your travel agent can be your friend- you should pay no more to use a good TA, & they can often find routings you may not have considered. If you need a referral to a good Adelaide TA, pls let me know
