Check your UA lifetime miles, as an adjustment MAY have been made now.

I just checked my UA lifetime miles. I had been aware of an adjustment coming, sometime early in 2012. Was not sure when the adjustment would be noted, nor just how big a jump my mileage would take. I went from 860,000 to over one million miles!!! Whoohoooooo!! DH bill get lifetime star gold now. He's loving that!

Check your UA miles. Anyone else as lucky as me?

mrwunrfl Dec 31st, 2011 09:31 PM

Mine went from about 570K to 808K.

That's great, Bill. I wonder how Kathie came out. She had started a thread here on this subject a couple of months ago.

ms_go Jan 1st, 2012 05:16 AM

Mine went from about 630K to 811K. I was expecting a bump of at least 100K, but I really didn't keep good enough records from the time I switched from AA to UA (mid 90s) until around 2004--so I wasn't sure quite what to expect. One million should now be attainable within a few years.

On the flip side, it's always a little depressing to look at my EQM balance on Jan 1.

simpsonc510 Jan 1st, 2012 05:35 AM

Yeh, it goes back to ZERO!! waaaahhhhh.... (but mine will jump on Jan 5 when I get 150% EQM for my Y fare back to ORD.

Kathie Jan 1st, 2012 09:48 AM

Hi Carol, I got my million mile status too! I had about 960,000 miles yesterday, my bump up was about 110,000. Yeaaa! I'm a million miler! (and Cheryl is cheering, too.)

O.K. here's the novice's question - other than seeing the number - what, if any, benefit are the lifetime miles?

Kathie Jan 1st, 2012 12:12 PM

Once you have a million lifetime miles, you become a Premier gold forever. And you can nominate your spouse or domestic partner to share your status. The benefits of gold status are many - extra baggage allowance, free upgrades on a space available basis, you earn 150% of the actual mileage for each flight, etc, etc.

Carol, unless there is a special promotion, you don't get 150% of your flights miles in EQM, just in spendable miles.

Kathie, she will get 225% in spendable miles including 100% bonus as a 1K pluse 25% bonus for full fare Y. She will get 150% in EQMs, including a 50% bonuse for full fare Y.

mrwunrfl Jan 1st, 2012 01:08 PM

Am pretty sure she meant Y=full fare and not just Y=economy.

Kathie Jan 1st, 2012 01:51 PM

Thanks, MrW, I thought United did away with the 150% EQM bonuses for full fares. I appreciate the info.

mrwunrfl Jan 1st, 2012 02:31 PM

I'm pretty sure the 50% Y EQM bonus is still in effect.

The redeemable mileage bonuses did/will change for platinum and gold statuses from 100% to 75% and 50%, resp. I am not sure if this change takes effect now or at the end of March.

One nice thing is that your 2011 status will continue until the end of March:

So I will be 1K until then and then get demoted to Gold. That is unless they offer, and I take, a fasttrack option again.

mrwunrfl Jan 1st, 2012 04:45 PM

>Yeh, it goes back to ZERO!! waaaahhhhh....<

At least they aren't showing an empty status bar (yet) with a statement saying that I need 100,000 status miles to retain my status.

simpsonc510 Jan 1st, 2012 05:26 PM

Yes, my fare is Y-full fare, not just Y-economy. But I am upgraded all the way home anyway.

simpsonc510 Jan 1st, 2012 08:27 PM

That million-miler site is a dead end at this time. It must be on overload!!

Managed to get DH enrolled. I did a right click on the MM link at the UA site, where you look at different MP status levels and benefits. A left click just got a 'dead click' sound. A right click, and then 'open' got me there.

I have a measly 175K, but it didn't bump up at all. I wonder why not. Did they not give anything to the lowly Premiers?

ms_go Jan 2nd, 2012 05:42 AM

I have a measly 175K, but it didn't bump up at all. I wonder why not. Did they not give anything to the lowly Premiers?

It doesn't have anything to do with status. My daughter, who is a Premier, got a nice bump from about 250K to 340K (not a bad start on MM status for an 18 year old!). Did you have flights in the past on Star Alliance partners (Lufthansa, US Airways, etc.) that were credited to Mileage Plus at the time? Did you get any bonus elite qualifying miles from past promotions? Those are the sorts of things that were included in this adjustment--basically to account for the fact that United and Continental have accrued "lifetime miles" differently up to now.

althom1122 Jan 2nd, 2012 07:28 AM

Thanks, ms_go, that helps. I don't think any of those things apply to me, so that must be it. Drat.
