Charging for alcohol on international flights?
I've been hearing rumblings that some carriers are now charging for alcohol (in coach) on international flights.

Does anyone know if Northwest has adopted this policy?

Thanks
|
I do not know about NW, but Continental charged for drinks from Houston to Panama City, Panama.
|
I don't know about Northwest but just this past Tuesday I paid $5.00 for a drink on American from Panama to Miami.
|
This is something that Continental and some others have changed within the past year. I don't believe Northwest has adopted this policy yet for international flights but turning a cost into something that could at least break even or possibly make a minor contribution would seem like a legitimate thing to do, in view of the losses being experienced.

There was another massivly-repsonded-to post on this very subject recently..I think in the "Europe" forum. Appparently some do and some don't..and then there was the pissing contest that ensued about whether or not it was "OK" to take your own liquor on board and then another pissing contest about "safety"..the only folks who didn't show up were the Fodors "fashion police". Why don;t you simply CALL THE AIRLINE if you really ARE planning to fly and find out from them?
|
I hope they do start charging. I would probably be in better shape after a long flight if I weren't such a sucker for the free alcohol.

A ticket agent at American told me that they are going to be charging alcohol on the new York/London flights. It was said in the context of--along with the cheaper fares will come more of a "no frills" type of service. My question is: Can Economy get worse?

Well, it's BYOFood, so why not BYOB? I know, there are rules against it.
