Changng a Delta Code Share with KLM
 

I am flying a Delta code share with KLM to Marseille. It's not clear at this time what the track of Hurricane Irma will be. I want to be clear on what I need to do if Irma impacts air travel on the east coast. Will I be able to change my flight olnine or do I need to call Delta to reschedule? Anything I need to know? I have done this online with UA, but I'm not familiar with Delta with Delta rules. Thanks

When and from which airport are you scheduled to fly??? It will be quite a while before Hurricane Irma is a threat to any airport in the US, if it is even a threat at all.

Regardless, although KLM will be the entity that will decide whether the flight will be cancelled since you booked through Delta you'll have to contact them to make changes to your itinerary.

Nothing will be done by Delta until the storm gets much closer. They have many options and when, and if, they need to make operational changes you will be notified by email. Until they make the announcement nobody knows what they will decide to do and how to proceed.

You can also check their home page from time to time where they put up a notice. They are pretty good at trying to minimize disruptions to passengers. Whatever, note that Delta handles everything for KL in the US so you will not have to work with KL as well. One stop service.

Also note, you still can make changes even before they make their announcement. However, you would be subject to change fees.

I realize Delta won't make a decision until the forecast is clearer which is likely to be in a few days. If and when they do I wanted to know how to proceed. When this has happened to me in the past I have acted quickly and was able to get a flight I want to replace the one potentially cancelled.

Airlines generally post Alerts/Notices on their websites when there are weather factors that could have an impact on flights. They usually appear under a "banner" at the top of the home page - the timing of these notices can vary greatly so you have to keep checking the websites.

If you have set up a personal profile on the airline's website for your particular flight and elected to get email notifications you'll get an alert if your flight is delayed or cancelled. Again, the timing of these alerts can vary depending on the situation. Generally speaking (for reason as previously noted) cancellations because of weather/storms are made "later" rather than "sooner" so don't expect too much advanced notice.

So, monitor the progress of the storm on various weather websites, check airline websites and, if necessary, call your airline. It's about all you can do until a decision is made by those in charge. No way to predict when or if they will act.

Thanks for the links! I have been paying attention to the NOAA Hurricane Center alerts which still are not forecasting what will happen in the USA. I will monitor the links you sent.

Per the Delta site "Flight notifications are only available for Delta/Delta Connection Carriers." Does this mean that it will not notify me re the KLM flight booked via Delta?

It would help if you told us what airport are you flying from and when you are flying - don't really understand why you won't Ellen us that. Hurricane Irma (or what might become of it) is a week or more from making landfall in the US (if it indeed happens to go that way) and that probably will be somewhere in Florida or the Gulf Coast of the US. If you are flying in the next couple of days or from an airport north of there Irma might not be an issue for you.

Re: Airline notifications - bestbto check both Delta and KLM websites. Since your flight is operated by KLM they will be the ones making the decision whether or not the flight will be cancelled.

No idea about Delta, but both AF and KLM are being very generous. You many change dates, or cancel your trip, and also change origin/destination.
