Caution while booking a ticket on rcg.se

I booked a ticket from CLT (India) to GOT (Sweden) via Oman Airways on rcg.se website and had to cancel it after two weeks. RCG has an obsolete cancellation policy where they practically do not refund any money on cancelling a cancelable ticket. I looked up their website and first found a note (https://support.rcg.se/index.php?/Kn...tt-pa-min-resa) saying “Once the payment is completed, it is the airlines' rules governing existing rebooking and cancellation”. I made out from this statement that they give the refund according to the airline’s cancellation policy. With this information, I proceeded to cancel my ticket. RCG cancelled the ticket but I did not receive any email confirmation whatsoever. The next day, I rang up the RCG customer care, and waited for around 2-3 hours in queue to connect to an agent. The instructions to connect to an agent were all in Swedish and as a non-Swede, I had a hard time to follow the instructions. Upon getting connected, the agent gave me near useless information, and told me to call back again the next day. I was agitated at their response, so he asked me to call in the evening. So, I called back in the evening, waited in queue for an hour or so, and finally got connected to a senior agent, only to realize that I will not be refunded any money on my trans-continent, refundable ticket. They claim on their website that refundable tickets are available on payment of insurance, but strict conditions apply. The refund will be given in special circumstances only to Scandinavian citizens who are unable to travel because of sickness and have a medical certificate (However, they allow all nationals to pay the insurance, but you get the refund only if you are a sick Scandinavian). Furthermore, it is impossible to do a name change on a booked ticket.

I lost 4700 kr in booking the ticket and an entire working day waiting for and talking with the agents.
Please do not be deceived by the few kronors of discount offered on the tickets sold at RCG, and instead book your flights at some other legit websites.

With one exception, that being a consolidator I know well with whom I book multi-continent discounted tickets, my policy is to book directly with the airlines. Your tale above is the reason.

CLT is not in India, it is Charlotte.

Why use a Swedish travel website for a booking originating in India? Does not make sense.

If you use a Swedish travel agent why are you expecting service in English?

If you use a Swedish travel agent, why would you their expect travel insurance to cover non Scandinavian citizens?

I doubt you purchased a refundable ticket. Most websites default to non refundable/cheapest tickets & you have to search for the more expensive/refundable air tickets. The rules are set by the airline so if you are not getting a refund then that would be why. You should get the refundable airport taxes back though. If you think the agent is holding back monies which are due to you (highly unlikely in the very regulated world of Sweden), you could lodge a complaint.
Name changes are almost impossible, it is a well known fact.
My policy is to book where ever it makes sense to me, whether that be an online travel agent or directly on an airline website. Your tale has 2 sides of a story of which we only know a fraction of one side.

There are times that third-country bookings are sensible, or even necessary. I've had numerous cases where it's impossible to use an airline's website to book because my credit card is from a US bank or I don't live in or book from their country. Recent examples are China and Chile. A (usually) reliable OTA is what I will then use, and have never had a major problem.

We don't know why the OP booked a journey starting in India on a Swedish website, it might have been payment related, but can't see why that would be. The trip would have had to been booked via an agent as Oman Air don't fly to GOT so assume a connection somewhere on another airline. Expedia India for instance accepts credit cards and local debit cards as payment and OTAs don't care where your credit card was issued. There is not enough info given by the OP.

Yes I have encountered issues with buying Hawaiian Airlines tickets on their own website as they do not take non US credit cards but I don't see that this is the same situation, unless the OP says something different.
