Cathay Pacific--JFK to Vancouver spoiled me!

I just flew Cathay Pacific from JFK to Vancouver on a Boeing 777-300 and I can see why they are a five star airline. Here is the menu for economy class:

Smoked salmon with potato salad, choice of either Tai Chin chicken with steamed rice and mixed vegetables, or Beef with vegetables in merlot sauce and mash potatoes, or Gemelli pasta with puttanesca sauce and mozzarella cheese. Carmel cheesecake, tea and coffee.

Spirits and Aperitifs included Chivas Regal 12 years old, Johnnie Walker Black Label, Cognac, Vodka, Gin, Rum, Sweet/Dry sherry, Campari. Wines included Australian white wine, Madison Ridge Chardonnay 2008 and Red wines included Domaine La Combe Merlot 2007 or Argentine red wine.

The fasten seatbelt sign was turned off ten minutes after take-off and not put back on until 20 minutes to landing.

Unfortunately, it was a night flight which means the flight leaves JFK around 10:40 p.m. and gets into Vancouver at 1:30 a.m. At 1:30 a.m., a taxi is about the only choice in Vancouver.

The seats in economy reminded me of the photos I have seen on the new Airbus A380. The seats do not go back, but do slide down to recline; not the most comfortable. There was an electrical outlet at my seat--great for long flights with a lap-top. The television monitors are larger than the ones on Jet Blue and had video on demand. Mine worked with no problems. The flight attendants were incredible! I only heard the pilot speak English and woke everyone up 30 minutes before landing. Flight attendants walked by with juice and water only. Most people wanted to sleep.

The economy class section looked pretty full but business class looked rather empty. I’ll be flying back to JFK in ten days and the overnight flight makes more sense.

We also flew Cathay from Vancouver to JFK. I had never heard of it, and Princess booked it for us. Loved it! Organized and service oriented! Will definitely look for future flights with them.

I flew Cathay on the Vancouver route too - it was really nice! It's no wonder why it was rated number 5 in the top 10 luxury airlines!

Just a note: I did get 25% of the miles with British Airways. I booked the low fare on the Cathay Pacific website so I couldn't get miles with American Airlines.

I've been wanting to fly Cathay for years. Hopefully I will someday.

Was it the merlot sauce that did it for you Wally?
