Cathay Pacific Business Class; Best Seats for 2?
DW and I have booked 15 hour flight in business class from SFO-HKG on Cathay Pacific.
I've confirmed the plane has the new angled business class seats. These seat have high dividers between them and it is not clear if it would be better for two people traveling together to be in seats behind one another, e.g. 14A, 15A, or across the aisle, e.g. 14/A/D. Can anyone with experience with these seats (they are on CP 330, 340, 744, 773) share a recommendation? Thank you for your help with this. |
Pretty much none of the above. You really can't see the person directly across the aisle owing to the angle and the coffin walls between the seats. The angles / \ mean you can see the feet of the person across the aisle, but not the head, unless one leans quite far forward.
In front/behind (e.g. 14A,15A) especially on the upper deck of a 744 you can lean way back and almost see the next person, but again, the angles and the high walls make conversation almost impossible. I was looking forward to the seats, but was quite disappointed - narrow, claustrophobic, no window view, no visiting. |
You should really look into flying SQ on this route. And even UA if you want to see each other.

I've flown Cathay on the SFO-HKG route, and all I can say is that the trip is very lonnngg. |
What about first class SFO to HK?
|
First Class on the 744? I think 1A/K in the nose are the seats closest to each other.

If it is a 773ER, then 1D/K or 2D/K. The middle D seats enter on the starboard side with K, and are separated from the A seat with the wall.
Seriously, if communication with your companion is important, maybe it is better to fly business class. |
My experiences from both first and business long haul on a CX 747 and 777 is that in business, it's pretty challenging to carry on a conversation while in a seated position on either air craft.
traveldawg, I sat in 1A on a 747 while traveling solo from HK to SFO. Conversation from this seat to seat 1K would be possible if you leaned way forward. Or, there's space for your companion to sit in your suite if you want to dine together or chat -- assuming both parties are in first. |
