Carryon rules on flights from UK to USA

Are passengers on flights from the UK limited to one carryon? Thank you.

The restrictions are the same as flying from and within the US: one carry-on bag and one personal item (purse, small backpack, laptop bag, etc.).

Thank you. Apparently the rules in place on my last such trip have been lifted. Thank goodness!

It really depends on the airlines. European airlines are much more strict about the rules whereas US carriers seem a little more lose?

You really need to check with your airline for size, weight and number restrictions on carry-on. For example BA allows one carry-on plus a laptop or handbag:

(but BA calls it "hand baggage" rather than "carry-on")

AA allows one carry-on, one personal item and a few other things (like book, bag of food, etc.):

I meant to add that you also want to check the rules at your departing airport. These can be different than what any airline allows. So if you are departing Heathrow, or Gatwick or Manchester or whatver find the airport website and their security rules. For example I think tighter rules may have been lifted now at both London airports but previously both Heathrow and Gatwick had security restrictions on carry-on that were different than the airlines had. Then Heathrow lifted those tighter restrictions but not until months later did Gatwick do the same.

cmcfong, when are you going to be in the UK?? Any time to spare for lunch with one curly-haired little miss and her mom? We'll travel to you!
