Can't Switch Seats on United?
 
So...I booked a couple seats (not FF) on United for March 2007 using AmEx. I went to the United web site this morning and learned that they no longer allow you to switch seat assignments. The next available time is 24 hours before departure.
Is this something new? Is it because it's an international flight? Or because I used AmEx to book them?
I've been able to change original seat choices multiple times on other airlines, so it's certainly a surprise to me.

It's one of the various shortcomings of united.com. You can switch seats by calling.

Some airline websites, including United, offer you only 2 windows during which you can change seats - when booking and 24 hours before.

They do it because United likes to annoy people.

My response is the same as ms_go, with the substitution of "many" for the word "various". I will add that it is nothing new.

Yes, do call. I did last week and had my seats changes. Flight not until Jan. 2007.
