Cancellation fee - AA frequent flyer reservation

I have used Delta FF miles in the past, however, this will be my first experience with American Airlines. If I book a flight for next June using my ff miles and then need to cancel, I understand there is a $100 fee to return the miles to my account. Is this correct? I am questioning it because my experience shows that Delta does this for free.

The following info from aa.com took me about 90 seconds to find:

Changing Award Tickets
A $100 USD change fee (subject to change without notice) will apply for any confirmed change to a MileSAAver Award ticket.

* Exception: MileSAAver Award tickets for which the only confirmed change is to the date and/or time will not incur the change fee.

This change fee must be paid when your award ticket is reissued. The ticket must be reissued by an American Airlines airport or Travel Center Agent.

Changes to the award required for travel (example: changing from a P25M award to a P40R award) involve reinstatement of the original award, and a new award ticket to be issued.

Reinstating Awards
If you have not used your AAdvantage award ticket and it has not expired, you can request to have your AAdvantage mileage reinstated. Partially used tickets cannot be reinstated and miles that would have expired will not be reinstated.

When requesting a reinstatement, a $100 USD processing fee will be charged per account for the first award. Any additional awards reinstated to the same account at the same time will have a $25 USD per award add-on fee.

If you have an electronic ticket and wish to reinstate your AAdvantage mileage, please call 1-800-882-8880 to cancel your reservation and request your mileage reinstatement.

If you have a paper ticket, please call 1-800-882-8880 to cancel your reservation and mail your paper ticket and reinstatement request to:
American Airlines AAdvantage Department
P.O. Box 619688
DFW Airport, TX 75261-9688

According to www.delta.com:

Unused Award Certificates and Tickets

Completely unused Award Certificates and Tickets can be returned for deposit into the member's account. A redeposit fee will apply. For information, contact Delta by calling the number on the back of your SkyMiles membership card or 800-323-2323.

Once travel has commenced on a ticket issued against an Award Certificate, the Award is considered used. Mileage will not be credited back to the account for the unused portion of the ticket.

Unless Delta's guidelines have changed in the past year I can guarantee they will charge you to return miles to an account. We had to cancel a flight purchased with FF miles in October of 2005 and, although I can't believe I don't remember, it was either 25.00 or 50.00 each to put the miles back.

Delta charges a redeposit fee of $50.00 per ticket unless you're a Platinum Medallion member, then the fee is waived.
