Can you pack wine tetra boxes in your suitcase?

We will be travelling to the USA to catch a cruise. We would like to pack some wine in the suitcase. Has anyone had problems with security, having tetra boxes of wine packed?

We frequently pack a box of wine in our check-in luggage and have had no problems with secruity.

Wine in your checked luggage is not a problem, you just have to make sure you declare for customs purposes when you enter the US. I gather you are planning to consume the wine while on board the cruise ship. If so, you might want to check with your cruise line as many do not allow you to bring alcholoic beverages (including wine) on board.

Do so, if you are willing to take the risk that all your clothes will be spoilt. Tetra boxes burst easily. I have seen what can happen with suitcases (like falling from a height of 10meters to the ground) and would NEVER pack wine or liquor in my suitcase. (A friend of mine had ruined his best suit when he had put a bottle of red wine in his suitcase for a one-hour domestic flight.)

And it happens very often that security opens your suitcase for inspection and does not close it properly.

It might be a better idea to wrap the tetra boxes in styrofoam and check them in as separate boxes.

My suggestion: Buy your wine in the duty free shop at the harbour just before boarding your ship. We once checked two boxes of wine in when boarding a cruise ship. We told the staff to be very careful with the bottles and they were.

Is there a problem with bringing wine, olive oil, etc back to US from Italy. I read somewhere that it was being confiscated at the airport. we will be flying out of Rome to Atlanta.

There is no problem bringing back olive oil or wine IF
1. it is packed in your checked baggage OR
2. you buy it at the duty free and it is delivered to you on the jetway

Certainly security in Frankfurt was confiscating these in November when they were in passengers' carryons.

Thanks for the info. Is it best to make these purchases in duty free shops at the airport or while touring?
