Can I make this work
I have never flown through LAX but I will be traveling to LA for a Steelers game on the weekend of October 13th. I fly into LA on Sunday and leave Wednesday at 1:45 pm on American flight 2543. I plan on flying out of LAX on Monday to Vegas and flying back in on Delta flight that is suppose to arrive at 12:22 p.m.
So my question is do I have enough time for my American flight leaving at 1:45 p.m. if my Delta flight gets there at 12:22 p.m. |
Key phrase here = "is supposed to arrive" A slight delay and you are SOL.

I hope you have carry on luggage only. Otherwise, you may not be able to interline the luggage (check it through to your final destination). Then all bets are off.

I really think this is too close. We fly Delta a lot in and out of LAX and just getting out of the Delta terminal can take time now days with all the construction. When you go over to American you will have to go through security again. I wouldn't take a chance on a flight with that little time between flights at LAX.

Nope - not even close to a good idea, in fact a terrible idea. The Delta Terminals (2 & 3) are on the opposite side of the loop road from the American terminals (4, 5 and 4 remote). And they are not connected airside.

If you use a multi-destination search function you might find a way to fly home directly from Las Vegas without returning to LA. That would put the whole trip on one itinerary.

No, you do not have enough time due to conditions at Delta.When we went from International Terminal arrivals to Delta in May, it was a total construction mess. Poor directions from staff. When we eventually got to the gate area, it wasn't too bad. I won't use Delta in or out of LAX for a while.

You couldn’t make that connection if there were no construction at the Delta terminal. If you have 90 minutes you might do it, but I”d feel more comfortable with 2 hours.

Fly east from Las Vegas even if you have to make a 2 hour layover in Dallas, Atlanta or Chicago. Don't go back to LAX!

45 minutes is generally the minimum window you need to lay over. Sometimes ticket agents may book you as close to 30 minutes, but obviously there is no room for error. In those situations you want to make sure you are one of the very first to get off the plane, meaning you stand up and rush to the front while everyone else is still in their seat. And study where the gate is on an airport map before you land, so you know exactly where to turn and go once you're off the plane.
That is nuts -- do you know LAX at all?? Have you ever been there?? Or are you just posting 'general filler'. The two terminals are on opposite sides of the airport and these are separate tickets. Even 2 hours could be an issue. |
Even at a small airport with only one terminal I am uneasy with a layover shorter than an hour. At LAX you don't stand a snowball's chance of making a connection that fast if there's a terminal change. Even without a terminal change I would be very concerned.

There are no general terms when it comes to connection times. Ticket agents will not book 30 min connections.
