Can I buy a 1 way ticket to the UK with a >1year VISA
 

I have a VISA valid from 15 Jan 2013 til 31 Jan 2014 which is longer than 1 year. I therefore cannot book a return flight for the full duration of my VISA.

I am traveling as a dependent on a Tier 4 student VISA. I am an unmarried partner of my girlfriend who is a South African studying at Cambridge University.

I have every intention of coming back to SA but don't want to be committed to a return flight for in case my VISA gets extended.

Have you looked into a round-trip ticket that permits changes, so you pick a return date now but reschedule later? Compare the costs and conditions, making sure you understand all the details. Of course, you may find that one-way tickets are the answer (cheaper or less hassle or both).
