Can I bring chemical hand-warmers in my carry-on?

Hello all.
Does anyone know if I can bring chemical hand-warmers on the plane in my carry-on?
I'm talking about the kind that activate when you open the package and can be put in shoes, gloves, etc.

I want to take some with me on my trip to climb Kilimanjaro. I don't like to be cold...

The manufacturer website says they are "safe for air travel" and "not regulated" but doesn't address the TSA regulations. The TSA website doesn't mention them. They don't feel like a gel, and they're not liquid.

Thanks for any help!

I have brought the type for releiving back strain which I think are the same type of product. The only thing the TSA said to me is that depending on how it is in your luggage it sometimes requies them to do a hand search. I travel with these in my carry on all the time and I have never been asked to "volutarily" surrender them. They are actually a type of iron powder.
