British Airways compared to Lufthansa

We are going to Cape Town in the winter, as we've done before, usually with Lufthansa. They have a flight that goes from Toulouse, our closest airport, to Frankfurt, and then non-stop to Cape Town. Every year I check for other options, and find that British Airways now offers a flight from Toulouse to Heathrow, and then non-stop to the Cape, for about 300 Euros less 950 vs 1250, approx. , with the same terms and conditions.

We're not unhappy with Lufthansa, but it would be interesting to try another approach, especially with the price difference. BUT I don't want to have to deal with BA's labour disputes (had enough problems last October with France's strikes) and also wonder about service, comfort, etc., on BA.

Any thoughts from people who might have tried both? Especially for a long haul flight- 11+ hours.

I find BA's service to be comparable to Lufthansa. BA's long-haul comfort is, IMO, much better than Lufthansa in every class of travel (save maybe first class). BA's ground facilities at Heathrow are light-years better than Lufthansa's facilities at Frankfurt. If travel time and pricing were similar, I would take BA over Lufthansa pretty much every single time.

Don't know what to tell you with regards to the strike threats.

BA is One World and Lufthansa is Star Alliance so if you have miles with Star, you will be starting over with BA. Both are four star airlines and pretty equal in economy. BA's Business Class is a little better, IMO.

Since you plan to travel in eco, I don't see much difference. Not much "comfort" to write home about on long-haul flights in eco cabins anyway.
If other factors are similar (layover time, convenient arrivel/departure times), I'd give the cheaper BA option a try, and decide for yourself.
