BRITISH AIRWAYS CHANGES MY world traveler plus seating
 

I made reservations in May for November and when I picked out my seats, I was the first to do that for this flight. I purposely booked early to get choice seats Row 22 J and K on both flights EWR TO LHR AND LHR TO EWR. (I know that they have the right to change anyones seats for any reason). But, When I checked yesterday, they had changed my seats to row 20 J/K. That was fine, until, I checked the ALL seating charts for the 777'S AND ALL CLASSES OF THE 777'S and found the row our seats are in does not exist on a Boeing 777. When I called today they told me I was still in the same class seat and not to worry. However, they told me itis the last row of 3. I told her I did not want the last row because of the recline or lack of it in that row. That made no difference to her but she said I could change at the airport. NOT ! If I wait til then, I won't have a chance to get a better seat unless the first row is not booked as they save that for bassinets etc.

WHAT CAN I DO IF ANYTHING?? THANKS FOR LETTING ME BLOW OFF STEAM !!

A seat assignment is just a request. Any airline can change your seat anytime. There's no guarantee.

Also, European airlines have much less "respect" towards seat assignments. They switch you around all the time. Very different attitude compared to US airlines.

Damn right we do! If you spoke to me and got all flustered about a damn seat (a bloody seat assignment!!!!) I would have shifted you to a middle seat as soon as you got off the phone and put a note in your booking advising that you are not eligible for extra legroom. You are getting what you've paid for and you've hardly been downgraded.

There really are far more important things to be worried about.

What you can do now is just get over it. And get some flight attendant shoes since it is obvious that you'll be standing for the whole flight. ;)

Look on the bright side, you may be upgraded!

British Airways is still my last choice when booking travel.

How about going on line and having a go at finding alternatives - you have nothing to looses as they could change you anyway OR not

Have you checked to see if the back row has less recline than the other rows? I just glanced at seatguru which normally highlights such defects, but did not appear to mention it in your case.

Look at this way: BA will probably change over PE seat assignments besides yours, so you have a shot at getting a better seat. Make sure you check in early and ask NICELY for a seat that isn't in the last row of the three.
I've been in the last row of BA's PE a couple of times and as I recall, my seat did recline. (I can't stand bulkhead row seats and always doublecheck that I haven't been assigned one of those.)

Thanks BTilke. I am over the aggravated feeling I had and will just plan on everything being great. How is PE with BA ? We have only ever flown economy and never with a foreign airline. I have been told it will be great, even if we were in economy. Is this true? Thanks for your input.
Thanks to all the other POSITIVE responses. And to the negative ones, maybe someday you will have a question and someone will respond to you in the same manner. I hope you will enjoy it. I have been an avid fan of this site and just despise the negativity and ridiculous responses of some people who obviously have nothing better to do in this lifetime.

you may be able to get better seats when you use the online check in - 24hrs before the flight, do it early and you may be able to get the bulk head seats - they only become available then.

although i'm from the uk, and obviously biased, i much prefer ba over usa airlines!
wt+ is just fine, loads of leg room, slightly wider seat. same food choices as ecconomy

I like everything about BA except their luggage service. If you're changing planes at Heathrow be prepared to have your luggage stay in Heathrow while you go to your final destination.

BA's unwillingness to allow mere mortals to seat select with any confidence, and their ridiculous baggage-transfer policies at Fortress Heathrow, are my two biggest peeves with the airline. It's not like the technology doesn't exist to make these things go easily; it's corporate arrogance and elitism, pure and simple.

That said, WT+ is okay pretty much anywhere you sit. It's streets ahead of WT- in comfort, regardless.

As OT said, getting the last seats assigned for WT+ can and does make your odds of an "op-up" (operational upgrade) to business greater, especially on 777s where the ratio of WT+ to CW is good. However, if it's November and you're arriving at Newark flush from a successful trip to Atlantic City, you can also ask at the counter about buying up to business class. Sometimes they will sell WT+ > CW upgrades for $200 or $250.
