British Air miles

Want to use miles to get from SFO to the UK next spring. Seems going through Heathrow adds tons of taxes and fees.Any way to get to Scotland via another airport?

Looks like SFO flys directly to Heathrow with a stop at JFK.Could I fly JFK to Glasgow, or are there any other suggestions? Very flexible dates so that is not a factor. Thanks so much. James

Possibly go to Schipol Amsterdam, or Paris and then to Scotland, but I don't know which airline does that trip.

Maybe you could fly with BA's partner Iberia thru Madrid. I checked Iberia's web site and they do fly from Madrid to Edinburgh and Glasgow. You will need to call BA to book that one, it might not show on the web site.

The # to call is 1-800-452-1201. Good luck.

I thought the Air Passenger Duty was UK wide so as long as you're flying from the UK and have a single ticket, it doesn't matter where you connect. Currently from UK to the US the APD is 45GBP in economy and 90GBP for higher classes. In Nov it will increase to 60GBP/120GBP.

The other part of the equation are the high fuel surcharges that BA levies on award tickets on their own metal. Fuel surcharges are also levied on some but not all partner carriers (I'm pretty sure it is on Iberia) though they may not be as high as on BA metal.

That's interesting Patty, good info. I hope the OP will still check out the Iberia option and hopefully share what he discovers.

We are flying SFO to LHR Mar 27 and returning May 3. Ba rep was very professional and time limited.I was on hold for 102 minutes after them saying my hold time was 45 minutes.

I didn't want to hang up and have the same thing happen next call. Rep did not want to discuss Iberia at that time because of call backlog. I took the nonstop for 200,000 miles and $1300 fees and taxes total for the 2 of us in Club or BA business class.

I know I settled for something less than I wanted but I know these BA miles come with fees so I want to get rid of them asap!Wife and i got 200,000 miles quickly thru a BA Visa deal.

I was on hold for 102 minutes

Wow, I would've given up much earlier ;)

FWIW I don't think the fees would've been much less routing via Iberia.

There's talk of replacing the APD http://www.dailymail.co.uk/travel/ar...anges-APD.html

Enjoy your flights!
