Bringing in Bali coffee to Brunei and UK.
 

I am thinking of buying a 250 gram bag of coconut coffee, and one of Mangoesteen Tea, whilst out in Bali.

This is where it gets complicated. I am currently on holiday in Bali, but have been in Brunei for the past 2 weeks with family, and rejoining them for another 2 weeks after this before returning to the UK.

I want the tea and coffee as gifts - both for people in the UK.

Having seen inside one of the coffee bags - its finely ground coffee which, to a scanner in an airport, could hypothetically look like drugs (though I don't know how they work so might not remotely be a problem).

What I want to know is a) would I have to declare the two things at Bali airport before getting on the plane? b) will it be allowed into Brunei and would I have to declare it on landing in, and later departing from Brunei? c) will it be allowed through Heathrow, and will I have to declare it upon arrival?

Hoping to put it in my suitcase rather than hand luggage.

Final note - the bags have no ingredients on them - just the name of the company, address, weight and the product within. Don't know if this will make any difference.

I see no reason why not. Brunei is limited for foreigners to bring in alcohol but I found nothing restricting coffee or tea.

Would you have to declare it at the Bali airport? You don't declare what you are taking out of the country, just what you are bringing in.

I have brought back coffee from all over the world in my checked bags, no worries.

Excellent - well I'll give it a go. The reason I asked this question was because I couldn't find a definitive answer on the UK or Brunei import/gov websites. With a little further digging it appears that, because it is not duty free, I would have to pay to bring it into both Brunei and UK but given that Brunei's charge is about 22 cents (roughly 11p) per kilo for both tea and coffee, I'm not too fussed. Don't know how much the Heathrow cost will be but for 250g, don't imagine it'll be too much.

In the US its up to about $300.00 I think of DF goods allowed. What is it in the UK? I am very surprised about that for Brunei.

For the UK, You can bring in other goods (non tobacco or alcohol) worth up to £390 duty free.

Yeah - I didn't declare for Brunei, and don't intend to for UK. Don't seem to be bothered. Even if they had been, I doubt they'd have done anything in Brunei anyway - too much hassle for too little outcome.
