Brexit - 03/29/2019 - flight to EU connecting in UK
 

So ... if Brexit does happen on March 29, anyone have ideas as to how that will impact flights from the US to the EU, connecting through Heathrow or Gatwick?

I am booked SFO - MAD, connecting through LGW in mid April. Hopefully there will be no disruption, but I guess if worse came to worse, there's always the train.

It has also been suggested by a number of sources that even in a total no deal scenario it has been agreed that contingency plans will be signed off to allow a 'year's grace' in terms of extending current EU recognition arrangements to flights, air traffic control etc. e.g as reported here. https://www.politico.eu/article/flig...avel-march-30/

However there are other potential pitfalls being reported around the scheduling of some flights so it might depend on which airline and status of scheduling. e.g. as reported here https://www.independent.co.uk/travel...-a8738911.html

The political position here in UK is however so febrile, the lack of official information so pitiful that it is almost impossible to predict where things will sit at the point you are travelling.

I don't think that taking the train from London to Madrid is a back-up plan.
Let's assume for the sake of the argument that there will be a super-hard Brexit and no or substantially reduced air connections between the EU and the UK.
The first thing happening will be that any business traveler, personal or his/her company, will buy up all Eurostar tickets available from March 29 till Christmas 2036.
If this doomsday scenario should materialize, your best bet to cross the Channel will be in a kayak ;-)
